Why? Chatman's not bad but wouldn't it be better to just draft a 3rd string RB late?

Better to bring some people in, then no people in.

Why use a draft pick when you can sign a guy?

He isnt a nobody.....He was the starting RB for Miami after Brown went down.

Chatman's just injury prone. But he's not a scrub by any means. He got over 500 yds in what might have been the worst O-Line of the year.

normally i agree with you, but this class of rbs is very very deep. the chances you get one as good or better than chatman in rounds 4-7 is much much higher than any normal draft class. these guys have real potential and have a chance to be great, even those taken deep in the class. Chatman is a solid #3 no questions, but I would prefer to steal a guy like Mike Hart in round5-6. also there is Tashard Choice in round 4.... there are great options in the end of the draft, so normally I agree with this sentiment, but not with this RB class.

    It's "signed", by the way.

Just incase you were thinking about criticizing the grammar and spelling of others like you have in the past.

If we sign Chatman I think the McFadden debate is over. Perhaps this means the organization doesn't want him.

This shows what I've been saying the last few monthes. We are not drafting McFadden, so please let the McFadden talk simmer down guys.

I just mean that Chatman seems to be to good a player to sign to be a 3rd string RB that's going to get few, if any carries...usually those types of guys are players who are just happy to be on the team.

Agreed. The McFadden talk can die now please. The Jets don't need a RB and if they do, they can draft one at any time or sign a free agent or pick someone off the scrap heep.

Guess how many teams have starting RBs that were drafted in the first 10 picks of the draft by that same team - by my count it is 8

Miami - Brown (injured last year)
Jacksonville - Taylor (at the end of his career - Jones-Drew was not an early 1st round pick)
    SD - Tomlinson
    Minn - Peterson
    Chicago - Benson (bust)
Tampa - Williams (injured 2 years in a row)
NO - Bush (not what was expected - maybe not a complete bust, but disappointing)
Seattle - Alexander (may not have been top 10, but is well into his 30s and is done)

The other 24 NFL teams somehow have made due without an early 1st round RB.

I know this was a different team(Arizona) but our current starting Rb was a top pick who was considered a bust in his stay in Zona.

    I disagree...

Jesse Chatman is a marginal RB with litle speed, but lots of toughness. If Jones went down...he could fill in, but by no means do you want him to head your attack.

Personally, I think the Jets should draft one late..like in the 6th or 7th round..who has some upside. If I remember correctly Chatman made his mark on special teams.

Yes. But I'm not the one who cares about people's spelling. If you do, like Al, it looks foolish when you screw up an easy word.
