Actually this is a dream and false hope that will get flamed but I'm prepared to go on... WR - Randy Moss, if not possible than Bryant Johnson (Edit: Bernard Berrian was signed). Everyone saw what great WRs did to Brady, I'm not going to get involved at who starts at QB, but another threat will make us have a great passing game, even if it does cost us money, and it will only further cripple the Pats if we take away Moss. (We may have to give Coles his money if we go and make a big splash here, because he would feel pissed if we bring in a new guy) TE - It would be nice to have another option who is a solid blocker and pass catcher, I'm not really sure about who is avalible but names that stick out to me are Ben Troupe or Ben Utecht, or maby we go a different route and go with a big stone-handed blocker such as Becht or Kyle Brady. (I cringe at that thought though...) RT - I would rather pick up a starter in the draft, but in addition to that I would like to sign a veteran to compete if we don't keep Anthony Clement. Names I'm thinking of would be Tom Ashworth? Jason Fabini again? (Feel free to bring up any names, I really don't know much of how good they were last season or anything...) NT - Not a position of need, but a comment on what to do with D-Rob. He is making an enormous amount of money, if he wouldn't accept a pay cut, I would probably trade him for the best availible offer. He was a solid lineman, and he could be a big help in our rotation next year, (He is a much better pass rusher than Jenkins) but not at $10 million plus. (EDIT: We are not looking for a NT) OLB - Honestly I'm pushing for Gohlston. But there are 2 routes here. Sign Pace and draft McFaddon or trade down, or draft Gohston (personally, I would rather have Gohlston) and sign a veteran LBer to rotate in and compete. Honestly I wouldn't mind having back Victor Hobson (He could easily provide depth at ILB, and OLB) for a reasonable contract, if not him then a guy like Clark Haggans could provide depth and knowledge of the 3-4. Other options include Kendrell Bell or Roosevelt Colvin. (Anyone know their asking prices?) CB - I may/will get flamed for this but how about Ty Law as a stopgap at corner? (BTW for all you people saying Poteat is our CB opposite Revis, he is currently a FA). I would take him for about 2 years/10 million. Any more than that and forget it. If we don't go after Law than Randall Gay would be a nice guy to have, I just hope we wouldn't pay big money for him. S - At safety, I am not comfortable with Abram Elam and Eric Smith opposite Rhodes, when we have god knows who starting opposite Revis, if we don't sign a corner than I consider safety a big position of need. For some reason I have a fixation of Kenny Phillips in the draft but that may be a reach from our spot. Honestly I have no clue who a good free agent would be, I have a feeling this spot is best filled through the draft. The budget (maximum): WR - 10 Million per year TE - 2 Million per year RT - 2 Million (maybe more if we get a sure starter) Dwayne Roberton - Ask to take a 2-3 Million paycut, if not than that should saves us about 5-10 million through a trade (Don't know thedetails/penalties). OLB - 5+ If we sign Pace, around 2-3 if someone else. DB - Not sure, no more than 5, and only if we don't sign someone else. 6th Pick - 5-7 Million? (Not sure how the slotting will work) So that amounts to about $20 million not counting what happens to D-Rob. I'm sure Tanny has the cap skill to pull that off. My ideal draft to add would look something like this, and it may change depending on who we sign: 1st - OLB 2nd - RT 4th - RB 4th - S 6th/7th - QB/FB
We got a NT. Berrian was taken. Ty Law wants to go back to Patriots. Ben Troupe is headed to Bills and gay is a Saint.
Berrian signed with Minnesota. I think the Jets should stay put at WR until the draft. There are several WRs worth drafting late in round 1 (should the Jets make a trade) and in round 2.
I Dunno what we do with D-Rob at this point , Maybe keep him and move to End only 6'1 so might be a little short but we have to do something maybe get a 4th or 5th and call it a day ? Well see probally by the end of this week.
Could you imagine having a WR a half foot taller than Coles and Cotch? And seriously fast for his size. Would be great.
ty law is done making 10 mil per year, but you are crazy if you dont think he can be a great #2 corner in this league for reasonable pay he is the best FA(cb) available, but i dont think he will sign with the jets...if we even show interest
That's my view, he would be a great guy to have covering #2 WRs, and would get a ton of picks b/c of his expierience, he would just have to accept that he's not a $10 million guy any more. I also don't think we have a shot of signing him.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. I don't think we are looking to sign him, but if we were, I think we would have a very good shot. He put up his best statistical year ever here. He knows Mangini and Mangini worked with him as a defensive backs coach in New England, so we already have that connection. Also Law and Revis are very good friends, and Revis has said many times that Law is his football role model. I am sure he would love to come here and work with Mangini again, as well as work with Revis starting opposite of him. If Law is willing to take the money he deserves (not 7-10 million per year, more like 3-5) then I think we would be shopping for him and I think he would like the chance of playing here again.
