Here's a blurb on Yahoo from the Daily news which is probably posted elsewhere; plus I couldn't help but post a few fan comments. "Jets offer appears too good for Faneca to refuse Friday, Feb 29, 2008 11:38 am EST Quoting a source close to Pittsburgh Steelers guard Alan Faneca, the New York Daily News reported the New York Jets were a virtual lock to sign the All-Pro guard. The Jets were expected to present a monster contract offer to Faneca, an unrestricted free agent. The offer was said to be a four-year, $32 million package that includes $20 million in guarantees, too good for him to refuse. The San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams also were believed to be in the hunt for Faneca, but the Jets were the clear front-runner. One person close to the situation described it as a virtual done deal. Faneca, 31, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, could be in New York by Sunday to sign the deal. Source: New York Daily News " My only question is why is he waiing till Sunday? I think he should sign tomorrow. Here are some fan comments: "Being a Steelers fan, I am glad that Faneca will get his money, He deserves it! Now my team will have to rebuild starting from this years strong draft of Offensive takels and guards." "Faneca just take the darn money you Squeeler golddigger......." "Cheap Steelers." "this is exactly why the steelers didn't sign him...he was going to get way too much money from somewhere else...good addition for the Jets...but the Steelers weren't wrong for letting him go..." "Also, word is that Faneca got pissed off when the Steelers hired Tomlin instead of Whisenhunt or Grim"
4 years and 32 million is only going to get him if it's a no bullshit frontloaded contract. The other big guard contracts of recent years were the usual bullshit with most of the real money up front in the first two years and then silly escalators in the final 3 to 5 years to boost the announced value of the contract. So if the Jets and Faneca decide to just cut the bullshit and leave off the years that will never actually be paid that way then the offer is right in line with what Hutchinson, Dockery and Steinbach got.
Beyond solidifying the OL, his signing will have an impact not only on the two young bucks playing to his left and right but also to the culture of the entire team. How do you think the rookies draftees and free agents this TC will react to seeing a grey-bearded veteran Pro-Bowler who just made a boatload of money working his butt off in the blistering sun. Perhaps this may be the catalyst that promotes and strenthens a winning culture for the team and the organization as a whole. Two years from now this deal will seem like one of the biggest bargains in Jets' history.
Get it done! With Jenkins here, this would really help beef up the o-line and d-line without even looking at the draft yet.

If true, sound like a little too much to pay........Thoughts? Have you read the sticky called DESCRIPTIVE THREAD TITLES PLEASE? Put... it... in... the... fucking... title... for... Christ's... sake... __________________ Hey Guys, No, I hadn't read the sticky first, so 1st of all, apologies. I simply was trying to contribute news to the board.... I have no interest in sensationalism or getting my "count" up....... I hadn't really put much thought into the title, so it was an honest mistake. Having said that, the three of you who decided it was appropriate to rip me a new ass, I say to you....WTF? Was it really that big a deal? My purpose was to stimulate some discussion and by the THREE pages of comments, it did just that. See the bigger picture? Just didn't think there was a need for all the anger and a suggestion that Petro should "do something punitive", I don't argue 'bout half as much trivial shit as some and don't have any agenda's, so I wanted to get that off my chest....... Default Descriptive thread titles please! I hate reading threads where I have to open them to find out what is going on. A lot of people like to scan the threads, see what the news is, and open them if it is interesting. It's much better to make threads with descriptive thread titles, so people actually know what the thread is about. It will also cut down on duplicate threads, so we can consolidate talk about certain issues to threads more easily. As much as we try to cut down on duplicate threads, far too often threads will hide the meaning of them with vague titles. If instead of saying something like, "What if this would happen?" or "Good news" or something along those lines, at least hint at what the news is or what you're talking about. It's pretty annoying, and if you all help out with that, the board could go more smoothly. Plus, I hate clicking on the same thread 4 times because I forget what the thread is about, and I can't remember based on the title. This isn't a widespread problem, which is good, but there are a couple threads that aren't very descriptive, and I keep clicking on them, forgetting what the thread is about. __________________
