You're banking a lot on Miller magically improving. He's shown nothing so far that would suggest he could even be a solid nickelback. Hell, even his services in the return game are no longer needed with the emergence of Leon. Right now, there's no one trustworthy playing opposite of Revis...one signing would not fix the weakness in the secondary, but it'll be a start. To say signing Gay would make everything fine there is a bit of a reach.
true. but im saying the depth will lessen the degree of severity if someone goes down. Gay, Miller, Poteat, Hawkins, and Coleman, are all capable of stepping in and starting; especially if the pass-rush improves. but yeah, saying Miller will be better is presumptious. i think that the tools are there, he just needs to get his head on straight and learn the Defense and how to read Offenses. if Mangini and Co. teach him, the sky is the limit because of his physical attributes.
Just an odd thought. If we do sign Gay, would it be possible that we would trade Miller for some more draft picks?
We won't have money to sign any extra picks. There have been zero rumors about people inquiring for DeWayne, as far as I have read. With the sneaktastic way of reporters these days it has been safe to assume this season that where there's smoke there's fire. Unfortunately, there's been no smoke in Robertson's case. So we might be stuck with the cap hit and the ill-fit. Eddawg, which one of those average CBs will fill the hole left by a (knock on wood) Rhodes injury? The other safety position is pretty wishy washy too, IMO.
a) Miller was their best secondary player this last training camp. b) Whose better, Woody or Olivea? c) Is Gay any good? Everytime i've seen him, he seems to get beat alot.
i would like to see us shop miller, i think we can get at least a 4th for him if he proves he is healthy, everyone wants the next devin hester and he was a pretty impressive return man with youth and potential on his side
I'd rather keep Miller- Miller and Washington together is a deadly return combo. You cannot underestimate the field position advantage the Jets will get next year. I know I sound like a broken record, but Miller is a phenomenal athlete and could still be a great CB. He was awesome in training camp last year- I know it doesn't mean much, but he's still very young. Also, I still think he's a better returner than Washington.
Jets reportedly interested in Olivea Sorry if this has been posted before , kind of hard to keep up at the moment  Jets reportedly interested in Olivea By Hoss Aultman Posted Mar 1, 2008 The Jets are reportedly interested in former San Diego Chargers right tackle Shane Olivea. But based on what Chargers GM A.J. Smith said about the Long Island-native after releasing him, the Jets better be careful on this one. The Chargers benched Olivea in the middle of the 2007 season. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the player, "fell out of favor with coaches over his work ethic and commitment." And this is what Smith said after cutting him earlier this week. ?For the Chargers, it didn't work out,? Smith said. ?He lost his fire.? Since the Jets love players who are passionate about football, they clearly need to investigate Smith's assertion before pulling the trigger on a Olivea deal. The Jets are also reportedly interested in former Detroit Lion Damien Woody for their right tackle spot.
When I saw Olivea was released I thought he might be a nice quick sign. He has more talent than AC...But you can't chance bringing in guys with a bad work ethic. and AJ seems like he gives players a pretty fair shake. Unless Woody falls through I would steer clear...Even if that means 1 more year of AC in the starting lineup. If Long falls to 6 I would snatch him up. In the mock draft on profootballtalk.com they had the Jets taking Felix Jones, and Matt Ryan wasn't taken in the first round, which I thought was odd...And KC took Long in their mock...why wouldn't you think KC would actually chase a QB? I would like to see Long come here. Worse case he moves inside to play RG, best case is he plays well enough to move Brick to RT and takes over LT duties. I can live with either....
SO then B. THomas, with his big contract, would be a 2nd stringer? Chris long will be a better player than Gholston, especially if he can stand up. At 278, a guy that versatile would be a 1 man wrecking crew
