He's still taking the trip to New York to hear the Jets out. It sounded as if he liked what he saw in Miami though.

    http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/439582.html

The Dolphins successfully agreed to terms with every known free agent that visited South Florida today -- except for one.

Calvin Pace, an edge rusher who can play defensive end or outside linebacker, said Friday that he would still take his scheduled trip to visit the New York Jets. But it certainly sounded as if he was leaning toward Miami.

Edit: The media seems to be having a rough go of it this offseason. Faneca, Pace, Rogers....all wrong or announced prematurely.

    Read the post kid.

Gholston isn't in the NFL yet, so we don't know what position he'll play.

Hobson isn't on the team anymore...that's why we're not talking about him. I'm glad Mangini and Tannenbaum didn't re-sign that trash.

Gholston is far too light to play DE. Hobson is the OLB he would take the place of if the NYJ's drafted him. Certainly not Ellis. I agree that Hobson should be replaced. I also want to thank you for calling me "kid".

The "kid" remark is kinda lame. Not going to lie..

Gholston will not play anything other then LB in the NFL. He is far to light to play anything else. Gholston is not all he is hyped to be either, I dont understand the logic..

On the same page with, Hobson. So glad to watch him go.. I wish him the best though.

I would like to see the Jets persuade Pace. It would be a really sweet move.

    You're telling me a 266 pound man-child can't play 4-3 defensive end? He's bigger than Osi Uminyiora.

I called him a kid because he can't read and he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about (actually I called him a kid, because I'm not allowed to call him anything good) ...he called me out for saying that Gholston would replace Ellis -- which I never said. I was saying that if the Jets selected Gholston, he would play 3-4 OLB.

My principle concern with the Jets is speed right now. If we're going for an outside linebacker I would like to see somebody who could run a sub 4.5 40 and have a frame capable of carrying 250 to 260.

The guy I see in the draft for that is Marcus Howard from UGA who was the MVP of the Sugar Bowl. I hope the NYJ have checked him out.

I really think we don't have the money to sign Pace after Jenkins and Faneca. We've gone out and made a splash, now it is time to start finding players that we don't have to break the bank on.

If you have a defensive end/outside linebacker running 40 yards he's either on the kickoff coverage team or someone broke a huge run against the defense he's on. Really probably one of the most useless drills for evaluating front 7 players.

I don't want to see the Jets throw a ton of money at this guy, but we could use the help. Can't count on the guy we want in the draft to be available where we pick. If the Jets can get him at a reasonable price then he's probably worth it.

Agreed...this guy is just blowing a bunch of smoke out of his ass. He has a low football IQ.

The combine really doesn't matter as much as everyone thinks. Interviews and personal workouts are much more important.

MrElectric29 -- this is the quote to which I was replying actually: "...If we take Pace and Gholston, then Gholston gets to be a 3rd-down pass rusher behind Ellis for a year or until he's ready to be an every-down DE. Then, its bye-bye to Ellis. If that's what happens, anyway..."

I had nothing to say about your comment. Sorry about that. It is true that Gholston at 266 is heavier (but shorter) than Osi at 261 and also Michael S. at 255.

However, the Giants don't play the defense that the NYJs do and I think Gholston will be more likely a LB when they get his strength to where it has to be in the NFL.

I think that's a good question. It's like there's blood in the water.

Who is better and available? I'm sure Mangini has a reason for brining the guy in.

READ THIS: IF Pace signs with the Jets, we will draft the BPA available. Gholston will not be the pick. He might go before 6 anyways. He could get drafted to a team that plays a 4-3, where they will use him as an end. I've been saying this from the beginning.

If the Jets don't land Pace, we'll probably draft Gholston and, yes he will play OLB...but only in the 3-4. He is not a 4-3 linebacker.

By the way, height has nothing to do with an ends talent in the 4-3. Look at Dwight Freeney.

I would love Pace to go to Miami think about if Pace goes to miami they would have no need for an OLB so that means no Chris Long at #1.Which assures us either Chris Long or Vernon Gholston at #6.
Pace is gonna be a bust i know it

Chris Long would play 3-4 defense end. Pace plays outside linebacker. After signing Smiley I almost expect Parcells to get Jake Long now.

Then you don't know what you're watching if you think Pace is a "guy that can rush the passer". Pace is a decent player, an upgrade from Hobson in the pass rush department but not that much better than Bowen. I will say that his fluidity at LB is pretty impressive considering his size; he doesn't look awkward in space the way BT and some other converted DEs can sometime look. Basically Pace is not going to solve our pass rush woes; we'd be better off drafting Gholston for that.
