I havent seen on here any where the impact this will have for Sean Ellis. The double teams Jenkins commands will make Ellis a beast again, let alone anyone we put on the other side.
The worse thing that happened to Ellis was Abraham leaving. With a guy that draws doubles, he's back.
Kenyon Coleman, Shaun Ellis, Sione Pouha, and Kris Jenkins don't have to get to the quarterback...they just have to stop the run and take up blockers so our OLBs can get into the backfield on blitzes.
Think a little further. Jenkins draws the double team, opening up Sean Ellis to single coverage. But behind Ellis, here comes VERNON! That's just one side- Kerry Rhodes will be blitzing off the weak. The five-man blitz is going to be a special thing this year, gents.
Exactly. Hopefully with more single coverage though, Ellis can drive the opposing tackles back right into their QB's gut.
lol, neither do I... I think this signing shows all future free agents that the Jets are serious about winning
The Jenkins pickup definately helps take the sting out of trading Vilma. This guy should definately improve our line greatly. If we get Gholston in the draft our front 7 is going to look very intriguing for 08.
Not to be negative, but even if we draft Gholston... We still may not have a great front 7... Ok we will have Gholston (Didnt he play DE at Ohio state?) Harris, Jenkins and Ellis... Thats 4 players... We are still real weak at the RDE postion, #2 ILB, and ROLB....
If we woulda kept Vilma... I would be alot more excited... I think thats all Vilma needed in the 3-4, a huge NT like Jenkins instead of a small Robertson... Man, Vilma could have tore it up, we never know
Intriguing yes, but with plenty of question marks yet. How would Gholston and Jenkins adapt to new roles in a 3-4? Will Bryan Thomas ever get it together? Who will replace Vilma in the inside? Is Kenyon Coleman an answer? This defense has a ways to go, but if Mangini is insistent on the 3-4, it is step in right direction and we can hope for the best.
Coleman played better than Ellis IMHO, and is a very solid starting DE in the 3-4. He holds his ground at the LOS and occupies his blocker. He also sheds said blocker well. Coleman - 83 tackles 1.5 sacks Ellis - 49 tackles 5 sacks 1 forced fumble They compliment each other quite well. If we get Vernon Thomas gets moved back to his 1006 position, where he had his best season. Thomas in 2006 - 77 tackles 8.5 sacks You can't ask for much more from an OLB in the 3-4. Hopefully he can do this again when he switches back.
With that said, our primary need is a potential replacement for Barton, though he might end up playing well with Jenkins and, hopefully, Gholston in the mix. After that, we need depth at OLB and DE and the front 7 is solid.
what about justin smith on the right side? i think that would just be a sick o-line. then draft ghoslton.....sick sick sick......aint running on us.....sacks out the ass....and alot of picks for Rhodes and Revis
I agree. There is more to do on the DL but there's still the draft ahead of us. FAs on the OL are the PRIORITY.
If ur talking about Justin Smith from the Bengals? Thats unreal, lol, he would be sick next to Jenkins but I think hes a 4-3 DE... And yes, the Jenkins deal is official!
it's being reported that the Jets will receive a 2009 4th round selection from the Saints...which could turn into a 3rd rounder if Vilma plays well. I smell rip-off. But whatever...Getting Jenkins is gonna allow David Harris to be a missle in 2008...I can't wait...hopefully the Jets stay healthy.
with jenkins in the middle our defense is definetly something to look out for this year and as for the last post if you as me, i think vilma for a 2nd round choice would have been fair for us but i guess injuries gave the other team too much leverage in the trade
