WFAN has reported that the New York Jets have offered Alan Faneca a 4 year contract worth $32 million, with $20 mill in guarantees.......

If true, sound like a little too much to pay........Thoughts?

A bit steep, but look at the crazy $$ guys like Steve Hutchinson have received as free agents...... as ticket prices go up and up ;)

$8M/year to help solidify our OLine?

    That's cheap to me.

It's really not a bad deal. The way the CBA works, the cap will keep going up or there will be no cap so financially, we should be fine. $8 million/year might sound like a lot for a guard now, but 2 years from now, that number will seem pretty reasonable if he plays well.

Hahaha, as soon as I saw the thread title I was like, "This is it! We've signed Faneca!" Good news nonetheless.

a bit steep? does anyone really care about it being a bit steep? If we develop a running game and CLemens has enough time to throw the ball is anyone really going to be thinking about the 8 mil that is going to Faneca?

If we do sign him it is a great signing no matter what the price is.

great point Jtuds, there was enough room on the title line to say exactly what WFAN was reporting. People just want to watch the counter go up on how many people have read their threads.

8 is exactly what he's looking for. If he stiffs us for more we can always look elsewhere...but I think he'll accept this deal.

This is what you have to do to shore up the Oline. Remember how we had Kellen running (and Chad plodding) for dear life last season. Won't happen with Faneca.

This guy has been to seven straight pro bowls, did anybody think he was coming cheap?

I like that the deal is only 4 years. I imagine Faneca wants a longer term contract at his age.

    PFT again. Same sh#t.

    FANECA WON'T LAND IN 'ZONA

When Steelers guard Alan Faneca began loudly complaining about his contract last year (he was so upset at one point that team chairman Dan Rooney told a Pittsburgh television station that he was worried Faneca might "keel over"), many presumed that Faneca longed to join former Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and former Steelers offensive line coach Russ Grimm in the land of cacti and cap space.

But now that Faneca is finally on the market, the Arizona Cardinals aren't in the mix. As a league source told us, they simply aren't willing to spend the kind of money that it will take to sign him.

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that three teams currently are chasing the perennial Pro Bowler -- the Jets, the Rams, and the 49ers.

We're hearing that the Jets are considered to be the favorites

Seriously, who the hell cares? As if the Jets fans are footing the bill? "Salary Cap Hell" is an outdated expression. That phrase was made largely obsolete by the new labor contracts. Can you honestly tell me one team that's unequivically screwed next year because of the salary cap?

Everyone thought the Redskins were up the creek last off-season because of Dirty Dan's outrageous free agent signings. Ya know what? The Skins are fine. Made the playoffs.

"Salary Cap Hell" doesn't frighten me. Going 4-12 and having 12 Mill in cap room does. Cough up that green for the Green, Woody.

Everyone said the redskins were screwed year after year so being in the DC area I would tell my buddies that and they would laugh in my face and say "we will make room" and damn if they don't. The cap is not a factor as much any more pay this freakin guy.

I think they were just reporting the #s that have been floating around the last couple of days. It doesn't sound like new info.

This is exactly how I feel. What good did all that cap room do us last year when we refused to give Kendall an extra million?

If you want the best, you have to pay the premium prices. Ticket prices are going to go up either way. Pay the players the damn money and bring us home a frigging Lombardi!

4 years is the big number that I see. Only 4 years is perfect, he'll be 35 if he plays thru his contract and usually OLineman are still pretty effective at that age.

    I like it! Please sign!
