First off, with the great combine performances by Chris Long and Vernon Gholston I believe they both solidified themselves as top 5 picks. I really have my doubts now that Gholston will fall to us. Also, I would pick Jake Long at 6 but there's no way he gets past KC. Those are pretty much the only 3 guys I would take at 6. It's my opinion but I don't want McFadden on this team. With that being said, I think we need to look at a new option for our 6th overall pick.

    Keith Rivers - 6' 2.25" ***241 lbs***
-official combine weigh-in numbers. I never looked at him until recently because I thought he was a Vilma clone. Turns out this is NOT the case:

Hes got about 2 inches and 10 pounds on Vilma which is always better for our ILB position. He ALREADY knows how to shed blocks and be aggressive. I read this quote and immediately knew he could fit our scheme. Vilma would never say this:
"What is your favorite thing to do on the field?"
"Take on an ?iso? block" - http://usc.scout.com/2/365946.html

While he is like Vilma in that he has the ability to run sideline to sideline, he has a lot more to offer with a lot more upside. Mike Mayock has him at #8 overall! Taking him at 6 wouldn't be too much of a reach if that's the case. Mayock also says he can fit in any scheme because of his versatility.

http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d806be9d2 - Mayock speaks about him. This guy will be perfect in our system.

We already have Harris at ILB. He can be our big playmaker there, and Rivers is slightly undersized. He's a good prospect, but ILB isn't an immediate need, and it's not the best value. If we had the 10th pick, maybe, but at 6, we should be able to get someone slightly better.

It may not be our MOST pressing need but common, Barton or Hobson at ILB is fine with you? If our two major needs (Offensive tackle and pass rusher) aren't available at #6 you definitely go BPA. BPA that will really add more play makers to our team is EASILY Rivers. I'm sorry but Harris is NOT a play maker. He is going to be a great player and run stuffer but he isn't on any elite level.

Rivers is smaller but not undersized. http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d806d7877 Combine weigh in - 6'2" 241! Harris happens to be the same exact size. Rivers is a more flashy version of Harris if you ask me.

More importantly though...who would be your pick at 6 if you can't have Gholston, Long, Long, or Mcfadden?

    I don't want Rivers at 6...

Here is how I see the top 5 shaking out...

I think our pick will come down to either McFadden or Gholston.

The only BAD scenario for the Jets would be this...

    1- Chris Long
    2- Vernon Gholston
    3- Matt Ryan
    4- Darren McFadden
    5- Jake Long

AH! We would be stuck with Dorsey and Ellis and I am not comfortable taking one of those guys for the 3-4

I'd love to get Rivers I dont think he is that undersized, obviously it depends how he moves. I hope the Jets could pick him up

I agree, we need to hope that McFadden or Gholston is there for us. Then we can just take that one.

i dont think McFadden will help us at all

Thomas Jones is a very good running back... he had 1000 yards this year running behind 3 linemen!

Washington and Jones werent the problem with our team, QB play, the line and defense was

to target a projected ILB at #6 is not good cause you have #6 contract money at a position that is usually filled with less sexy 2-3rd talent.

you can draft players that will excel, ie harris, in a 3-4 2 gap system that will not cost you an arm and leg.

the 6 pick warrants a game changing player whether its a dominating DL, OT, QB, or even WR. IMO - CB and RB are on the fence and you better be sure the player can change a game.

I say we get the best player that falls to 6 no matter what they play

Harris was supposed to go in the 1st actually. He fell to the early 2nd. Jets were actually targeting him with their 22nd overall pick.

again my question...WHO ELSE IS THERE????? it seems no one can answer this.

well assuming that both longs ryan dmc and one of the dts are gone,

We could take Gholston or Sedrick Ellis, not sure how he fits though, We could reach for a Philip Merling or we could reach for a Kenny Phillips.
Ryan Clady is there but he is suited to play lt and we already have dbrick
