Sorry for the pipe dreams, but everyone else seems to be doing it, so I will too. Here's my ideal off-season: 1) Sign Alan Faneca. Make him the highest paid player in NFL history. 2) Trade Vilma to Detroit for Roy Williams. Yes, straight up. They're pratically the same player if you look at the stats, production and work ethic. (Rogers is NOT a Mangini guy, I assure you.) 3) D-Rob, a fifth rounder this year and a conditional fourth/fifth round next year for Kris Jenkins. 4) Here's the biggie- trade LC, Pennington, and a third round pick to Sperm Edwards for their first pick in the draft. Trade THAT pick, a fourth round pick and a second round pick next year to Miami for their first pick. 5) Draft Chris Long #1 overall. Draft either Vernon Ghoulston or Jake Long #6. (Scouts say J. Long fits better at right tackle) If both are gone, we trade the pick to Dallas for their first pick, second round pick and fourth round pick. I don't believe for one minute that JJ doesn't desperately want McFadden. It's a lot of manuevering, I know. But Tanny likes to manuever (see last year's draft). We've got shitloads of money, we picked 4 first rounders one year- i think this is all doable. My draft pick trade values are probably off and certainly open to discussion, but I think all these moves have potential.
We also have just destroyed our Salary Cap for the next 15 years. Also even if we were to trade down with Dallas in round one, I only count 2 first rounders. And by the Value chart, Dallas just fleeced us BIG TIME, the actual deal in terms of chart value would be more like their 2 first rounders, and a third/fourth. Also If we want to give out the biggest contract in the history of the NFL might as well give it to Asante Samuel in my opinion. Faneca is NOT WORTH THAT TYPE OF DEAL. He has had a few down years in a row, and is getting up there in age. Not saying we shouldnt sign him, because as long as he can still stand he is an upgrade over clarke. He just isnt worth that kind of money. Also you essentially mortgaged our future on this one draft this is what our draft picks are at this point. #1, #22 in round 1, #36 #63 in round 2, 2 fourth round picks, 1 sixth, 1 seventh. Looks good for this year pick wise. Next year 1 round 1 pick, 1 third round pick, 1 sixth, 1 seventh. OK just a heads up, Jets fans bitched out Tangini for only having really 2 picks in last years draft, even though both will be great. So next year we have 1 pick, and essentially have another in round 3, but the further down in the draft you go, the less likely to get immediate contribution you get. Also I think that for us to get Roy Williams, we would at least have to toss in a conditional pick which would probably cost us a third next season, which leaves us 3 picks in the draft. Yes it appears that this looks good on paper, but when you toss out that much money, you have just fucked us over, especially when we have no ability to bring in the Tangini teams best aspect of the offseason, drafting to save the day next year.
Did you try all of this in Madden '08. If it worked there, it is bound to work in real life. We could also trade our 5th round pick for the moon. This is the problem with people starting threads. This is absolutely redic. If this happened... the end of the world would be around the corner. The Faneca move is fine - As long as we don't overpay. I'm all for signing him, but at the right price. You don't want to overspend and lock up our finances Vilma for Roy straight up is obsurd. Detriot would be trading their only offensive weapon for a linebacker with a reconstructed knee. This would make no sense for them at all The DRob move doesn't make sense either, I think that we would have to do better than a 5th. Plus, Jenkin's has a injury riddled past. I don't know if he is a huge upgrade over DRob. I understand the his cap number and the fact that he is ill suited for our D, but I'm not sold on this move. WILL NOT HAPPEN. This would kill the Chiefs. They have a lot of needs, and this would hamper them. Plus, LC and Pennington are not worth a 1st round pick. This is a wet dream. Everyone needs to stop with the redic scenarios.
OK, I see your point. My analysis is limited, quite frankly, because I'm only familiar with about fifty or so prospects. The Jets brain trust might prefer to have later picks as they are familiar with far more prospects. The "Alan Faneca is overrated" thing is a matter of personal opinion. I think that with the exception of maybe Steve Hutchinson, he's the best guard in the NFL, and the down seasons are due to shake-up's on the O-Line, not his contribution. (Remember, it's a unit- that's why Brick and Mangold "underperformed" this year.) As far as tying up our salary cap, shit, why not? They'd be Tangini players, and why the hell should we save cap space? So we can sign free agents next year after going 8-8? So we can sign free agents the year after that after going 9-7? We haven't paid ANYBODY except for J-Co; let's put up or shut up. Also, don't forget that we'd have a lot of dead weight to trade for late round picks. Hobson and Thomas would be obsolete. Barrett or Miller could go. Anthony Clement could go. Ellis might get outplayed by Long. We can dig up some fourth rounders easy.
Their only offensive weapon? Really? Mike Furrey, Shaun McDonald and Calvin Johnson are what, water boys?
Dude, we went 4-12 last season and we play in Giants Stadium. The only way we get top tier free agents is by paying them.
Actually, 1, 2, and 3 are reasonable, but have been discussed in their own threads. Where you went a bit south is 4 and 5. The deals are just unrealistic and complex. It will never happen.
When you think of Detriot's offense, Williams is the #1 threat - he is their best reciever. Johnson is good when is isnt hurt - i.e, most of last year.
Ha! Yeah, the way it works for me is a thousand yards equals a hundred tackles, touchdowns equal sacks. So a hundred tackle season with ten sacks equals a thousand yard season with 10 touchdowns. It's loose, but it's apples and oranges, ya know?
nyjetsrule: you have just fucked us over bleedingreennwhite: This is absolutely redic. If this happened... the end of the world would be around the corner. You guys are totally right. I'm prone to overreaction. I will now save the world by relinquishing my role as general manager. Do you guys know if there's a forum I can post threads like this that won't destroy the Jets or humanity?
That is one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen on this board... A sack equals a touchdown? Are you kidding me? You don't get 6 points for getting to the quarterback. A top tier wideout is much more valuable than any middle linebacker. You're trying telling me that This asshole: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8032 -- 2 Sacks and 100 Tackles is equal to This guy: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4863 -- 1000 Yards and 2 TDs Get outta here with that bullshit...
