Profootballtalk.com reports that the Lions are the current favorites to land Jonathan Vilma. Vilma would fit beautifully into their defense, which has been in desperate need of a run-stopping middle linebacker for the last decade. Any deal for Vilma will depend on a physical. He is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery. i found this interesting....we all been saying this for almost two years now
that would be great if we got a first....highly highly unlikely....but hopefully a second....i presonally dont want to see him go....vilmas my boy
If we got a first for him we would have to give up a 2nd or 3rd along with Vilma. Most likely scenario is a 2nd round pick.
yeah its gonna suck if we only get a third rounder for him but its better then nothing when he just leaves next year as a free agent. especially if we can't franchise him due to needing it for rhodes
I?m all for trading him, cuz i think he won?t resign with us, and we?ll need the tag for Rhodes next year. But i would never thought, that it would hurt that much seeing him really leave.
I think the Lions are going to give up more for Vilma than most franchises because Millen is a moron and because he's the key to their defense. Roy Williams? This guy breaks a nail and he's questionable. Great talent, not so much on the desire end. Typical former Longhorn. We're not going to get him straight up for Vilma anyway. -X-
I think the only way the Jets can get a 1st or 2nd rounder is to have a conditional based trade for the 2009 season to protect the other team in case Vilma is damaged goods. <60% of snaps = 3nd rounder, >60% of snaps = 2nd rounder, Pro Bowl = 1st rounder.
Not I. We need the picks for THIS years draft. This draft was looking like suck at midseason. Once all the juniors declared it's now very deep at many positions. For the same reason, next years draft is looking like suck.
Vilma and a high 2nd for a mid 1st? Nah.........besides the mid 1st guy would cost some money, Revis esque money and we know what happened there regarding negotiations. Thatd be a terrible deal for us, especially with the way this draft is looking.
Good point. I just thought it would be the best way to get good value for him. At least it gives us the chance to get a 1st, but that is worth this year's second anyway.
I too like the idea of a conditional pick. But we would need a pick this year as well. Something like: Vilma to the Lions for a 3rd round pick, and if he plays over 65% of snaps, an additional 4th rounder next year, or if he plays at least 80% of the snaps a 3rd rounder next year. Tannenbaum should at least get this from Millen, this will truly be a judge of his ability to negotiate and effectively be a GM.
The beautiful thing about trading for Roy Williams is that he wouldn't have to be the be all end all of the offense, since Coles and Cotchery both command attention themselves. I think Williams could flourish in this unit. He is mega talented, fast, and tall... exactly what we need.
Millen has been known to have succumbed to Jedi Mind Tricks in the past. Why stop now?.. Tanni: Matt you really need Jonathan more than Calvin (repeat 3 times). Calvin sucks and couldn?t catch a cold if he tried (repeat twice). He?s taking up too much cap room (repeat twice). Trade him now before its too late??.hummmmm (repeat twice).
I thought the best we could get for Vilma was a 3rd. Are we seriously expecting a 2nd rounder for Vilma in this stage in his career? I'm not.
