No actually, the Phins have a pretty good O-Line. Samson Satele might be the best young center in the NFL. Second best.
KEY ARGUMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 31 years old is not old for an offensive lineman. It's PRIME! It's a different skill set. If it were a quarterback, it'd be getting old. If it were a wide receiver, it'd be time to plan retirement. If it were a running back, it'd be geriatric. But it's not- it's a O-line, and these guys play deep into their 30's. SIGN ALAN FANECA.
Faneca would be great, then also pick up a solid RT in FA, draft a good DT, those three positions alone can create an enormous boost for this team.
When does Free Agency (officially) begin? This article says the Jets will go hard after Faneca when "free agency begins": http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7837770/Talk-isn't-just-about-college-stars-at-combine
I thought everyone thought Faneca was destined for Arizona and reuniting with his old coach from Pitt days.
No he isn't, D-rob owned him when they played the jets and he did bad all season. Steelers fans are glad he is leaving, Roethlisberger was the second (i think) most sacked QB in the league this year. This guy made the pro bowl on reputation alone, he isn't good anymore, I don't want him.
Go get Faneca! Since our season tix prices are going up lets spend it on Faneca and shore up LG position for the next 4-5 years. We need to draft more OL for depth and we still need to address the RT position, but Nicks would be an excellent choice.
I guess Faneca suddenly isn't too old to sign. Funny how things can change when a little snippet gets put into print in a news article.
I wouldn't mind that either. Moore is only average when he has good players around him. He is a walking penalty. But if the Jets upgrade LG and RT, RG could wait a year. Draft some quality OT and OG, let them start to develop so we have a good rotation and long term depth. If they sign Faneca, having a young stud OG learning behind him for 3 years would be a HUGE benefit to the team long term. But yeah replacing Moore would be good too.
if we could upgrade 3 OL spots in a single FA period, that would be rediculous. we would have to spend serious money. the only 3 quality guys I can think of to replace Clarke, Clement AND Moore, would be Faneca, Jacob Bell and Flozell Adams. For the record, if we can only have one gaurd, I would much prefer the younger Bell, because I think faneca has at most 2 seasons of high level production left in him, most likely only one. So i would prefer the younger guy based on that, and he has a good level of potential still at this point, Faneca has no potential this late in his career.
moore is servicable. We don't really need to replace him this year. I say that we should let him go another year and see how he does. He is the third best (or third worst, depends how u wanna see it) on the o-line. Right now LG is the ABSOLUTE priority for the entire team IMO, then comes D-Line, then RT. Clement isn't THAT bad. If there is a very strong left side, that can make up for a lackluster right side. I agree with you that faneca is old and is over the hill. He is still a great Guard but i would prefer bell. But the jets MUST sign eitehr bell or faneca. 100% top priority.
Moore was very good with Kareem McKenzie next to him. If we can upgrade the RT position, I think that would make Moore better. Such as getting Faneca would improve D'Brick and Mangold.
Jacob Bell has to be our LG next year no matter how much it costs. Faneca is not what he used to be and will only get worse. He's still an above average lineman but if we are going to give out a boatload of money we should have a guy who is in his prime for the entire contract. I wanted Bell and Locklear, but i'll settle for Bell and another free agent RT and one more draft pick.
They shouldn't just court Faneca; they should give him a few hours with the Jets Flight Crew. This guy would be a great signing and take some pressure off. I still would like to see them land a good RT type too. I would love to go into the draft feeling that our line is repaired and then we could supplement some potential good depth in the 5th or 6th round.
