I see alot of pro-Rubin guys on this board yet i see no one praising Red Bryant as a good NT for our team. Here are NFL's analysis for both guys. It is one sided with Bryant getting a full analysis, but i feel that is only because he is the better NT prospect. Rubin is much more of a project. "With a build like a coke machine, Rubin is tough to move off the line of scrimmage, providing play-making opportunities for the defenders around him." I think that's exactly what we need.
Rubin matches more in value to our 3rd rounder at this point (Bryant's more of a mid-to-late 2nd rounder) and is a better 3-4 NT prospect. Bryant looks more like a 4-3 NT type because of his height. However, I could easily be wrong; I'm no expert.
Rubin also put up 35 on the bench press as opposed to Bryant who only got 20. That was a big surprise.
That is a huge difference in strength however Bryant is taller and probably has longer arms. When you have long arms it makes a big difference in your bench pressing ability. Either way though I think it showed Rubin is stronger you just can't tell how much stronger based on that one exercise.
well we could always wheel and deal to pick up and extra second round pick, or we could trade back in round two... or we could just take Rubin at the top of round 2. I think he is the solution to our problems at NT, but that is just my opinion, i don't pretend to know much about him, because he does come from a smaller school, but I am confident some of the Gang green scouts will come through with a good analysis of him before the draft...
Rubin actually has extrememly long arms and has the build of 300+ RB, he would look good in Green, have him and Gholston on defense and they would run guys over or recieve double teams
QFT. He is one of those guys who absolutely loves to dominate multiple blockers. He wants to do it. This guy has a legit shot to end up a first rounder. He should work out well, he's got perfect makeup for the position it seems, and he's actually built and plays like a 3-4 NT should. We have no real shot of him with our 3rd IMO. Not unless the coaches don't think he's as good as his internet hype. BTW: Don't ignore Dre Moore in all of this. He's built similarly to Seymour, he's probably as athletic, he's got the measurables, and he handled double teams most of the time at Maryland. I'm thinking the interview process is what will separate alot of the DL prospects for us.
Just read Rubin's interview- the guy loves taking on multiple blockers. I don't think you'll find too many college guys that like occupying blockers. Everything about him screams NT. All of his negatives (not great pass-rush moves) are ideal for a NT. I thought this draft stunk for NT, but in Rubin and Bryant I think we could find the NT of the future. I want Rubin and would definitely either draft him with our #2 or trade up into the 2nd. Without a real NT, this defense isn't taking the big step bottom line.
Not necessarily. Bryant is rated higher in a lot of the pre-draft analysis. I just think that we can spend the first two picks on more immediate needs and still pick-up Rubin in the third. But if we pick-up Bryant and a quality RT, I would just be as happy.
Living in the past dude...Rubin probably won't reach our third rounder...I'd say Bryant has a much better chance of lasting til the 3rd. Rubin may new to many as a prospect, but that really shouldn't diminish him considering how his offseason is going. He's saying the right things, he's working out extremely well, and he's got the perfect NT build and size.
You have a good point but.......there are still more 4-3 Teams in the league who would see Bryant as a better fit in their system than Rubin. Even with a their current Combine performances, I really believe that Bryant would come off the boards before Rubin. But if we were able to snag either or them, I'd be happy.
After seeing Rubin in person doing the drills-- i feel he has an odd resemblance to our very own Dewayne Robertson.. i can be wrong but he just looks too much like him.
I'm not sure. Bryant didn't really impress me until the Senior Bowl. While Rubin may be an unknown to fans, I'm sure NFL teams have game tape of him because I've been hearing alot of good things about his playing style. Bryant had alot of questions coming into this offseason...past injuries...leverage issues...motor... These guys have completely different skillsets...
The problem is people need NT and they are not many big enough to choose from. Supply and Demand I would love to scoop Rubin in the third round.
Seriously, this height thing is getting ridiculous. It's more a function of the fact that there are more short, squat guys than tall, large guys. Ted Washington is an all-time great nose tackle and he's 6-5. If he has the right technique, his long arms will allow him to keep lineman from getting under his pads. The fact of the matter is, if we can get a guy like Bryant his size will immediately improve our linebackers ability to make plays. He's as big as most right tackles. Anyway, I'd take either guy. We should be looking to load up on these types, since Ellis is getting up there and Robertson might be out of town. -X-
