Well, we just have to watch and listen to what actually happens. You know, Madden 2006/7 and Fantasy Football will continue to be disillusioning -- just like all the pundits were about the SB this year. Cotton candy will never be satisfying, Man. Just think about how all those pissed-off, fed-up, "I wanna sell my season tickets!" Giants fans felt when little Elijah up and turned the tables on them?! I told my friend, Nick, who is a life-long Giant guy, the fan has to be careful he doesn't overrun reality ... it can get real disappointing when your team does the "wrong" thing and wins...
...the post is dumb because you are one of the knee-jerk fans that want the back-up to play..only to find out what knowledgeable fans already know.....
Dude, we could very well be wrong about Pennington. I love the guy, but every year he has to go out there and prove himself regardless. And if this thread is dumb, it is because this topic has been discussed at great length in the recent past. Shouldn't be hard to find the 20 mile long thread on it. Nothing new has happened to warrant bringing up a dead topic.
Well, until we all give the skill players (and that does include the QBs) the benefit of the doubt behind this abysmal OL this year, opinions are clouded with frustration over the bottom line -- which is the result of a bad sum of parts ...not just the skill players. I hold the Big Uglies accountable. The Fantasy Football guys think it's all about "magic"... So we have to agree to disagree. Except I think it's worth re-iterating...
My point was that nothing has happened in the last month since this dead horse was re-beaten for the umpteenth time.
I used to like Pennington's decision making ability. He clearly demonstrated last year that he has lost this skill. I would have my doubts over whether he could find it again.
i think this conclusion is based on the OL's play more than Chad's play. Otherwise, Mangini would not be setting up this competition between Kellen and Chad once again.
When the OL takes away the time from the QB, the DBs can sit on the short routes and cheat anywhere they think it is feasible. The "wrong place" is often any place. Opponents' defense had a huge advantage against the NYJ OL throughout '07 with only about four exceptions. When we can get the NYJ OL pass blocking AND run blocking well, it will be a better level table on which to evaluate the QBs and the skill players. It is amusing that you are willing to turn your back on the fact that the QBs (both of them) have one hand tied to one foot -- you still judge them as if they were in the same position as the "stars of the day" are. Until you are willing to confront their disadvantage and the stunning impact that has on their possibilities, these critiques are unviable. The NYJ CS doesn't share them, and while you may disagree with them, it is their every day job to be right about such things. My point here is that the judgmental critics of Chad and Kellen are in reality condemning the judgment and perhaps sanity of the NYJ CS itself. They still are in place and what they do determines what kind of team we'll have next year, I think.
In case you missed it several people do question the judgement of the HC and GM. Since the GM is a contracts guy and not a talent guy it's understandable why his judgement is challenged. Both the GM and the HC have very thin resumes in terms of evaluating talent and building a football team. Perhaps they over rated Pennington in camp prior to the 06 season? Maybe that's why they were put in the position to bench him in 07 when things didn't go as planed. I hope the fact that they are still in place now means exactly nothing. Pennington doesn't have to be moved or cut until June and we have no idea what their long term plans are for Clemens at this point. Just for my own edification since you brought it up, did Pennington really suck as much in Madden and fantasy football as he did as QB of the JETS last year?
As one of the fans who have stridently questioned the judgment of the fo and hc on various moves and decisions they made, I have very little idea what is in their noggins for next season until i see things play out. i wouldnt mind if chad took a pay cut and was the backup qb, which i feel is his best position currently. i also supported the decision to start him in the opener last season, because he had a better command of the dink and dunk offense that was being practiced last summer. but by the end of the first buffalo game, it was obvious to me that he had taken a big step back from his comeback of the year season, and it was time to give him the hook- which didnt come until several weeks later. if in TC next summer they repeat their MO of not requiring the QBs to throw downfield, Chad will again have a better chance to win any competition. And that is not a good thing. If the OL is not significantly upgraded (which was NOT done last year) neither QB will fare well.
Here we go again, another I love Chad thread. If we keep him as a starter it will be another year of 3 yard dumps and 10 yard hail marry's. Lets move on...
Pennington's career as a Jet is over. He is being talked up by Mangini and Tanny that he's there guy and you'll need to pay big to have him on your team. The truth here is that Mangini lost confidence in Pennington and will not want him back in 2008.
Pennington never had a rocket arm but got it done with the play action. I was one person who said if we had a line to give time to the QB and open holes for the running back then Penny's play action for which he became well know for (In the same comparisons with P Manning) then he would fare better and wouldn?t be so easy to defend! Nowadays I don?t think he has the tools to compete. Sure smarts go a long way but we can?t dink and dunk down the field anymore due to the lines deficiencies. The one dimensional plays being called by BS-junior don?t help either. All in all we cant make an accurate assessment of future Qb play until there is a line in place that allows for the proper time to make the throws , that is if the throws can be made!
Unsaddle yourself and get a new username , that way you won't have to keep glossing over Chad and Kellens deficiencies. You've come up with many arguments and defended them admirably , but its always going to be someone elses fault with either one of them. They are just not good enough. If KC starts this season , brilliant , now prove me wrong. I would love to be proved wrong , love it!
All I have heard for how many years now is how "smart Chad is as a football player"well I am sure is very smart...but I would rather have a moron with an arm that can get the ball down the field
Yea....no. I'd rather have a QB like Chad pre-tearing his shoulder to shreds twice than a all arm no brain QB.
last time i checked chad pennington was the backup. how knowledgeable when chad pennington wins us a super bowl feel free to call me that. in the meantime keep making posts explaining "i know almost nobody wants him to play but hes good i promise"
I fail to see how CP has been given a raw deal. He's been given many opportunities to thrive as a starting QB in this league. Unfortunately he's been unable to stay healthy, ever. Now that's not his fault, but it's not the Jets fault either. He is fragile and he spends what seems to be half the time on the sideline with an injury of some type. The team cannot continue to rely on an injury prone starting QB. He had one very good season, and since then has been slightly above average at best. His injuries have not only made him unreliable but they have limited his game. His limitations are well documented whether you want to accept the facts or not. Not only have his physical abilities eroded but one of his best attributes, his decision making, has also become worse. How many times have we seen him throw the out pattern to a d-back camping out on the pattern pick him off? Since his first year starting he hasn't shown the ability to consistently play well against strong defenses. The year Martin had the rushing title he had one of the better offensive lines in the league, a very good running game, and a very good defense yet he couldn't lead the team to points in the playoffs when it mattered. This was pretty much the exact scenario Pennington supports say he needs to thrive in yet he did not thrive at all. He choked. How many chances do we have to give this guy in order for him to be given a fair shake in your opinion?
