As per draftdaddy.com... N.F.L. Combine News/Rumor Mill, Directly From Indy [Part Six B]: Rumor around Indy is that veteran linebacker Derrick Smith (ex-San Francisco) has signed with the Chargers. Word is Cleveland and the Patriots were interested him...Also, we heard the Carolina Panthers will likely announce the signing of wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad to a deal Monday (one year, $1.5 million).......Additionally, there were some rumors in Indy about Jacksonville and the New York Jets talking about a Dwayne Robertson for Mike Peterson swap. Here is Peterson's yahoo profile... http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4685 Its strictly a rumor, but lets hear some thoughts.
no no no no no! don't do it! absolutely terrible trade! Peterson will not be better than vilma in the 3-4. People complain about vilma's size but peterson isn't much bigger. And, we cannot afford to give up ANY DL depth at this point. This would be a miserable trade for the jets
He's old and he is undersized. This doesn't make any sense, indeed. And why would Jaguars spend big money on a DT?
We need to get bigger at LB and Peterson is about the exact same size as Vilma, maybe a touch bigger. He also hasn't played a full 16 games since 2005. Pass...
Yeah I agree horrible trade. Plus doesn't the Jags already have two very good DTs in Stroud and Henderson?
There would have to be more coming our way for this to be even remotely even. Someone probably overheard a few vague comments and inferred it was a one-for-one swap. I can't think of any trades that Tangini got totally ripped off on.
After watching some of the combine, I think the first three rounds of this draft are going to be filled with quality players. If we make trades, it should be for draft picks, not 30 year old linebackers.
The worst trade they have made so far was a 4th round pick for Kevan Barlow, and Kevan Barlow was one of the main reasons we beat the Patriots the last time we beat them.
Well, these prophecizers are calling for the subtraction of a DL member for another so-called LB. My first reaction is: Why would Tannenbaum / Mangini jump out of the frying pan and into the fire?
I don't know if this will happen, or if it is the best move. However, there are so many rumors about the Jets trading this year coming from the combine. I know there is always alot of talk and nothing happens. But there are more rumors than usual. I will be VERY suprised if the Jets don't make a trade this year. At the very least it shows they are being aggressive, which is a good sign for the FA period, I hope. Just a passing thought.
just think of it all as smoke and mirrors at this point ladies and gentlemen smoke and mirrors. I would be very surprised to see the Jets trade Robertson to a team set at DT for a linebacker who doesnt really fit our system, just so we could justify trading Vilma to (just for shits and giggles) Detroit for Shaun Rogers. we made one horrid move to do a move we could have just done in the first place had we wanted too. I despise the Vilma for Rodgers move, but honestly if I was held at gun point as the Jets GM and told to make one of the two trades, I think Vilma for Rodgers would benifet the team far more than Robertson for Peterson. Smoke and Mirrors gentlemen, Smoke and Mirrors.
Keep Robertson...if f---g Tannebaum finally does his job and gets another DT in here, you'll see Robertson have a huge year next year.
