the Houston Texans just cut Jeb Putzier, rememeber when The Jets offered Jeb a contract in 2005, but the Broncos had rights to Putzier and opted to match the Jets offer. He is a quality blocking tight end and would be a great addition for little money..IMO..His best years were in Denver reception wise but he can definitely be a strong blocking tight end..Yes I know we have bigger concerns than a back up TE, but I found it to be interesting.
I have never viewed him as any more than a purely pass-catching tight end during his years in Denver.
That shows you bright Terry Bradway is--Putzier is courted by Bradway and then gets cut by the Broncs and the mighty Texans. Not to worry, when Bradway missed on Putzier he traded our #1 pick for TE Doug Jolley and Oakland's second round pick. Jolley lasted 1 year with the jets. Bradway spends that second rounder on a kicker, a position most teams fill with an undrafted free agent. We got a lot for that #1 didn't we? Pass.
At would be nice. Sean Ryan was cut and he was primarily used as a blocker. I would like to see a big TE aquired to free up Baker in 2 X TE sets. There doesn't seem to be much depth at all in the draft for TE , so maybe we pick up a FA , Becht is a FA
Despite his lack of size, I'm still okay with The Kielbasa Kid, #40 Joe "The Polock" Kowalewski on the roster. The kid blocks pretty well, stay healthy, plays with a lot of enthusiasm, has good hands and a GREAT motor. He'll never be a Shockey, but he's been learning in the system a year and I think this will be a break out year for him.
That's fine, it's not like we didn't have 5 TEs on our roster last year. I am also on board for Ben Troupe.
That's exactly what he did and he didn't appear in many other games either. He also threw a crucial block that scored a running touchdown... don't remember who it was that scored, but he took out somebody on the right side (west end zone). I know, because I happened to be watching him through my binoculars as the ball was snapped, The kid plays hard, believe me. I think Mangini is high on this kid and for good reason. He plays bigger than what he is (250 or so).
Yeah I like kowaleski, he will never be a great player in the league simply because he lacks the physical tools to be great. He is somewhat like Wayne Chrebet in the regard that he is too small to play his position, but he plays every single snap like its his last one, and he plays with all of the heart in the world. I think he will be a very good role player in the league for a long time.
Its amazing. baker has done next to nothing since joining the Jets , yet you'll be hard pushed to find anyone to say a bad word about him. Why is it that we can all see his potential and not the CS?
Ouch. I forgot about that and you just made me throw up a little bit. I don't mind the kicker pick though, the kid has been good.
