Alot of us here have the 2009/10 as being 'the' season when we are going to be ready to finally make the run to the big one. Could it be much sooner than that though? Look at where the Giants have come from and ended up , and there rise is all the more meteroric considering the task they faced in the SB. It seems to me that a team doesn't necessarily have to have all the pieces in place to make that run. Now I'm not after the sunshiner of the year award , but could our turn be sooner than we think? Even though we lost alot of games last year , we did actually play very well in spells and lost some close ones. I'm not a fan of Clemens , but neither was I a fan of Eli Mannings either. As Jets fans we always take a dim view , but maybe its time to start thinking a bit more positively.
It couldn't be much sooner, there's only one season between now and 2009/10  I very much doubt the Jets could make a serious run to the Super Bowl next year. They may have a run at the playoffs if they get some key personnel in and Clemens develops, but teams like the Chargers and Pats are still too strong to get past in the playoffs. The key after that would be to stop this ridiculous trend of crashing to losing seasons after playoff appearances. That means the Jets have to consistently build each offseason (which they failed to do last year) and stop allowing talent to leave (which they did after 2002).
I don't expect to ever compete again. Not while Mangini is releasing the Mawae's and Fabini's of the world and signing the Coleman's and Kimo's...and face the facts folks...its really all he's done.

Under EM's watch...Mangold,Washington,Revis ,Harris,Brick, playing Cotch, I assume you mean Kenyon Coleman who lead all DL in tackles in the NFL in 2007. Mawae was a loud mouth ass with diminished skills, Fabini was done and Kendall another loud mouth average guard who wanted to redo his contract..he signed by the way.
BS comment? I bet you think that his evil overhaul of our soon to be dominant 4-3 actually made sense too...
...don't forget his insistence on shoving Kellen down our throats while all the fans were standing by Penny.
I haven't. It's yet another thing he's done thats just totally unforgivable. I'm thinking of forwarding the Jets some ideas from this board...switch back to the 4-3...resign/trade for Kendall, Mawae, and Fabini...don't trade Abe because then we have no pass rush...I bet we could win like 8 or 9 games next year with that team and those 4 guys will only be like 200 years old between the 4 of them so we could also win 8 or 9 in '09 too. Then we'd have to rebuild but who cares...we weren't bad for a couple of seasons and thats what matters more.
^ yeah u need the lil smiley face, i missed it the first time too. i was like man dware is really inconsistant... oh no wait sarcasm
Hahaha 'soon to be dominant'? That's the dumbest or funniest thing I have ever read from you. And that is saying something.
You are so after the sunshiner of the year award. I know the Giants looked like they didn't have all the pieces but I think they did. They have been under achieving for quite some time. They finally lived up to their potential. But I agree, what they did was 'meteroric' considering who they were facing but it was not unlike what the Patsies did to the Rams. What goes around comes around right? As far as the Jets go. Well, we don't have the offense to keep up when we need it. Thats why the close ones got away. The defense is working way too hard. Getting trampled really. Can't get to the QB. It looks like this team is going to be a team built mostly through the draft. The FA aquisitions seem to be pointing to quick fixes and bandaides. I'm not knocking it because I can't do nothing about it. I think the big splash (or big spending) wil be made when most of the proverbial pieces are in place and then they can go out and put their crown jewel on it. For that to happen successfully their drafts have to just short of spotless. Not bad so far. Right now I don't care who you bring in here it wont buy a superbowl. It will take no sooner than 2010 but a playoff birth might be in the near future due to an expected lighter schedule. But don't expect all these elite teams to fall off the planet and leave the road to riches uncontested cause that's what it will take right now. As far as Clemens, I think he needs more playing time. In '08 we should see at least some glimmer of hope if he has any. For now get your popcorn ready and pop in an old tape of Superbowl 3.
