Just for s&%ts and giggles, lets think about the Jets sitting at #6 with McFadden on the Board. The Jets #6 pick is worth 1600 pts on the draft chart (AS REFERENCE ONLY). If McFadden is on the board, do you take him? Well, IMO, the Jets already have Jones and Washington. They need an offensive line to protect the QB and provide running room. McFadden is a luxury pick for them at this point. It appears to be well known that the the Cowboys are enamored with McFadden - I guess they believe he could be the difference maker to push them over the top. With two #1 picks (22 and 28) they have the ammunition to move up. To get them to #6, they would need to move both 22 and 28 and a third round pick. If I am GM of the Jets, I make this move - 2 #1s and a #3 would give the Jets 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. Given the amount of holes the Jets need to fill, this would give them the ammuntion to pick O-lineman, D-lineman and LBs they need. My question then is from the Cowboys perspective - they think they are one player away and are willing to move heaven and earth to get him - does this turn them into the receiving end of a "Hershel Walker" trade???
Jets got Jones and Washington but T.J.'s almost 30 and thats the usuall breakdown point for a RB except T.J. hasnt been a workhorse untill he arrived in Chicago a couple years ago so maybe he can stay fresher till his contract ends and leon is KRRRRAZY! but taking McFadden to groom him to be the replacement for T.J. im all for it but i say we worry about D-Line or a Pass Rusher guys like Chris Long , Sedrick Ellis , Gholston ETC. But McFadden is just so GODAYMN TEMPTING!
I've written this out a hundred times already. At 6, you trade McFadden to Dallas for MBIII, and their two first rounders. If you think thats doable, then you could also consider trading Pennington and the 6 to Atl, for the 3rd overall and their second ( or Third....there is a bit of extra accounting) as Atl needs a QB, and taking one at 3 is a waste, so they could get a Vet and Rookie at 6. Then from 3 you can do the Dallas deal.
I like this idea better. However, that is incumbent upon a productive free agency period. I'm not interested in the Jets drafting RB or WR or trading down into so-so land if they can't get some B+ talent along the line of scrimmage. My minimum requirements are 2 linemen (offensive or defensive), or a linemen and a linebacker before I even think about passing up on the "blue chip" lineman in the top 6.
Ideally I'd trade for Atlanta or Oakland's 1 next year, or someone else who will in all likelihood suck.
What makes you think Dallas wants to deal their young, pro-bowl running back who is arguably the most punishing runner in the game today (IN ADDITION to 2 #1's) for an unproven back with a small lower body? Not gonna happen, forget about it.
You didn't read the first post did you? THe thread starter was SPECULATING.... In the real world, Dallas, in trading for McFadden would want to deal Jones, but ...... (Oh, and BTW the 6 is worth more than Dallas two picks, but as a straight deal from the 6 spot, you would have to add another pick going TO dallas(high second round)) the more involved scenario, assignas a value of about the 21st pick overall (800) to Barber.
No I read it, and I just reread it a few times. I guess I missed the sarcasm? Either that I just just don't understand.
Just curious as to why everyone thinks Dallas wants McFadden? Has anything been said about this anywhere besides this board starting week two when our season was over?
From what I heard, Jerry Jones a razorback is in love with his fellow razorback McFadden. I don't really think he is that good. He is small below the waste and goes down on the first contact. He may make moves to dodge tackles, but if he is hit he usually stops his legs and goes down.
I truly believe that Thomas Jones is only a top tier running back when he has an all star line to run behind. Thats why his productivity blows. He's never been amazing, only average. We know this because he couldn't find the holes on his own. He needs them made for him. I say take DMC unless we can guarantee solid players for our two first rounders and third rounder. Lets see how FA plays out before we pull the trigger on this one.
This is from KFFL: just to throw this in. DMC or trade down, i?m OK with both. If we trade down, i just hope that Harvey or Groves is still on the Board at 22.
Well he was 10th in rushing behind our line last season. I don't think he's great, but I think he's definitely above average.
He?s 5th in Carries, and has the worst ypc average among the top 20 RBs. He?s also only 18th in ypG. That he?s that high in total yards is only, because he was one of very few RBs who weren?t in a comite and did play 16 games. He?s a solid average RB, nothing more, nothing less. When it comes to DMC, we?re not drafting only for next year, the player we draft is supposed to be a good contributer for the next 5-8 years. So that we have T.Jones shouldn?t have anything to do with weither or not we draft McFadden.
If that scenario was presented, either the 3 picks or the two picks and Barber, I think the Jets would have to take it. I don't expect it to be presented however, because I don't think the Cowboys are hurting at runningback right now. Barber and Jones give them a decent RBBC and it's easy to go out and pick somebody in the 4th round, or pick up a a Danny Ware (UFA) or Ahmad Bradshaw (7th rounder) essentially for free to round out the squad.
It's really Jerry Jones that is so enamored with McFadden as Jones is also an Arkansas grad. I bet the Cowboys stand pat and try to grab Felix Jones instead for trying to move up.
If the Jets trade down, it'll be with a team that isn't nearly as far away as Dallas, which is definitely a smarter move on the team's part. Right now all the Jets can do is hope that a player valuable enough to one of the teams in that 10-14 range falls to 6, allowing the Jets to make a move and pick up a 2nd rounder. Having 3 picks in the initial 45 without having to move that far away would be a definite boon for this squad. Though, like everyone's said, it takes two to tango, and in this case even three, because the right player has to be there.
