http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/ This is nice. They have some very good things to say about Gholston...Red Bryant too...Groves... Marcus Dixon sounds like a "Mangini" guy...Rubin sounds like he was born to play NT... That Merling scouting report only makes me want to see what he does at the combine more.
This is essentially what I'm going to be doing at work for the next two weeks is reading every one of these profiles. I have a horribly boring job with nothing to do on a fairly regular basis. Thank you god for the NFL scouting combine and draft and all the sillyness that comes with it.
The read on Ellis makes me want him even more. They also suggest that he would be a good suitor for our team. He will be a stud, I hope we get a pass rusher in F/A, so we have more room to work in the draft.
They didn't release those video profiles until after the combine like two weeks before the draft. They like to wait to see who emerges from the combine before they post them. I don't see why they wouldn't put them back up.
Sedrick or Chris? Sedrick's scouting report there is like the exact opposite of what we want in a 3-4 NT. In fact, in that scouting report seems to emphasize that he isn't made to play in a 2 gap defense.
It doesn't say anything like that man. It basically just talks about his stats, "man-strength", and how he came back for another year. The article doesn't say: Sedrick Ellis isn't made for the 3-4. Now the scouting report also says that the New York Jets 3-4 would be an ideal defensive system for Ellis. I think he's versatile enough to play every position on the line, and he'll be stud.
"Has a shorter than ideal frame and lacks great bulk for a two-gap system, but is very effective playing the three-technique." "Lacks the ideal size you look for in a two-gap defender and might be a better fit to play under-tackle at the next level" "Ellis probably could not carry the bulk to play a classic two-gap, but as an under-tackle he could be a clone of what Glover has done. Both rely on their quickness and ability to neutralize double teams. Both take good angles in pursuit and are move oriented types who get better penetration on the slant rather than with a blocker right over their heads" That sounds like a D-lineman who fits our system?
I think Ellis could become dominant if Mangini uses him in a rotating type of role -- Playing mostly in the middle, but also moving to end. MIGHT is the keyword in all of those quotes. After the combine, we'll all know who fits and who doesn't.
I want a very good starter at 6. All 3-4s work on a DL rotation anyway, so thats not my main worry. I trust Mangini to do his homework and draft well, but I still think Rubin is the best NT in this draft.
mayock says gholston takes plays off. think we should be concerned? he also thinks philip merling's better against the run, along with being a good pass rusher. what do you guys think? lord knows we need to stop the run!!
Everyone takes plays off, which is why I hate that knock. Gholston, like most pass rushers, can hesitate or look lost on any play he's not directly involved in., Merling is a giant sleeper but no one is quite sure where he fits into a 3-4 just yet.
Merling is an interesting prospect, but IMO, will never be converted to a OLB. Merling is best on the line and IMO, a good candidate for a 4-3 DE.
I went to a lot of Clemson games this year. Merling is best suited for the 4-3. He's not fast enough to play OLB. He might be able to play 3-4 end, but he can become dominant in the 4-3. He was one of the best d-linemen in the ACC.
Hmm not sure I agree with that. It must be true that when Ghostown takes his play off , its right at him. Another BT clone
Agreed, he's better suited for a 4-3. I'm predicting a team like the Redskins will draft Merling in Rd 1.
Dude, if you want an extreme scouting report ask Yisman. Apparently, he spends years and years scouting players.
You don't like opinions do you? As much as time will allow , I'm going through any tidbits I can to look at who we might draft. I actually think alot of mayock and he has him going early , but I disagree with Mayock assessment and look how many hours he spends on his job. Its my opinion, ok?
