Hey, Alio... did you ever see "Heavy Metal" when it came out? You might be younger than me, but that movie was cool. It came out the summer after I graduated from high school back in '81. My son and I are already planning to go see the clone wars movie. I think it's pretty sweet how visually the clones look like they do in Episodes 1-3. It messes with my mind to see the cartoon Anakin juxtaposed with the clones.
No, I haven't seen it. I was quite a bit younger than you back then. I was thinking the same thing with the clones. Very well done. Weren't they CGI'd into the films? This is going to be a good year for Star Wars, what with this film/tv show, and the video game.
I knew you were younger than me. I guess I get lonely over here in the "crotchety old conservative" corner. <shrugs> The CGI stuff does indeed fight with my senses. After seeing the droids (the ones who serve as cannon fodder) fighting with the clones, and the striking similarities of the virtual environments. . . to now have sophisticated cartoon caricatures of the main characters dropped into the mix -- well, you get the picture. Could George Lucas get any richer? And next question. . . do you think the acceptance of this format will spur Lucas to create Episodes 7-9 in an animated format?
That would be awesome!!! I'd be all for it. If he were to do it live action style, he'd really have to do it now.
I'm all but positive there will never be another live-action Star Wars movie. That's okay though. CGI would allow him to make episodes 7, 8, 9, 100. He could put a fledgling Luke Skywalker in his role as redeveloping the Jedi. Obviously Hamill can't do it live-action anymore. This movie/show may just be the springboard to a whole future of Star Wars lore. The only thing standing in the way is Lucas' claim that there will never be any further work done post-Vader. Money is hard for him to turn down though. BTW: Don't worry about the crotchety old conservative corner. I used to be sitting on the opposite side of the room, then I moved over to the middle, and now my chair seems to be moving itself closer toward you, with me sitting in it.
Yepppp... to do live-action now Hamill would have to be a sage-like Obi Wan of Episodes 4-6... plus that would mean the Jana, Jacin and Anakin Solo from the extended universe would be approaching middle age. It isn't anything a little retroactive continuity wouldn't fix. Lucas wouldn't do anything like that now, would he? <wink> (BTW, I'm still trying to figure out how I got into the corner I'm in. It is a synthesis of age, upbringing, and life experience. I started close to this corner, flung myself into the darker recesses of the opposite corner, and now have crept back. C'est la vie.)
Yeah, George has no idea what the term "retcon" is. I don't know a lot about the extended universe. Mostly only what my son has told me (he's a self-professed Star Wars geek). I'd really be interested to see it in CGI. (I'd even like to see the distant past. I read the first Darth Bane book, which was awesome. I can't wait to read the one that just recently came out. I'm also a huge fan of Knights of the Old Republic video game, which is recognized as canon in the SW timeline now.) As for the whole corner thing, I'm pretty much exactly the same. I was raised Republican, (fan of Reagan), converted to Democrat (despised Bush, adored Clinton, despise Bush), now I'm migrating back (because the Dems aren't reflecting my viewpoints any longer.)
If Lucas isn't writing or directing any of this, it has a chance to be good. the concepts in the prequels were strong, it was simply their execution that was pathetic.
STAR WARS HOMING BEACON - The Official StarWars.com Newsletter 2008-03-13 - Issue #218 Welcome back to the Homing Beacon, the official newsletter of starwars.com. WHAT ARE THE CLONE WARS? The world is being reintroduced to the concept of the Clone Wars in anticipation of this August's big-screen debut of an all new animated Star Wars feature. This week, exhibitors at ShoWest are being given a sneak preview of what to expect. Check out our reports on the Official Star Wars blog for updates: http://starwarsblog.starwars.com/ In the meantime, let's field some basic questions we often hear about the Clone Wars. What are the Clone Wars? The term "Clone Wars" describes the three years of conflict between the forces of the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems that started about ten years into Chancellor Palpatine's term of office. Wait... he's been Chancellor for ten years? Aren't there term limitations? You're right. Palpatine should have stepped down after eight years, but right around that time, a Separatist crisis started to build as a former Jedi, Count Dooku, began leading hundreds of star systems to secede from the Republic. The Senate -- the voice of the people of the galaxy -- demanded that Palpatine stay in office to guide the Republic through this storm. When would that have been relative to the movies? About two years before Episode II. Then, in Episode II, the Clone Wars start on Geonosis, and continue for the period of time between Episodes II and III. Okay. So, it's clones versus droids? Clones led by Jedi Knights, yes. And the Separatist fighting force is mostly droids -- the Separatists didn't have an army until they were able to secure the droid fighting forces from a number of covert corporate backers. But it's not just droids. With hundreds of star systems opposed to the Republic, some have been able to muster their own native planetary forces to defend their home turfs. If the Jedi are leading the fight, why not call it the Jedi Wars or something? Why clones? Because it's what made this war so different. In the distant past of the Republic, the Jedi had been involved in wars against the Sith, but no one had ever seen anything like a cloned army fighting for the Republic.
I haven't picked up the sequel yet, but the first one was AWESOME. Bane is just wicked. The thought bomb was one of the coolest weapons ever.
Yeah it was. And even though I knew Githany was going to die, I was so pulling for her to make it out of there. Such a great opening story about Darth Bane. I loved it!
