I have to agree with you. There are going to be some extremely talent RBs that will fall into round 3 or maybe even round 4. Odds are the value will be too good to pass up on IMO.
Wow hard to believe Jets fans put such a premiem on breakaway speed in RBs. The greatest RB in the history of your team and a soon to be hall of famer could not break a run for more then 25 yards. Ray Rice is very much like Curtis Martin in alot of ways. He a great person. He has sick vision and acceleration. He also has hart and fights for every yard. If Ray is there in the 2nd round u be fools to pass on him.
I'm sure Martin had more runs then that even, but point remains he was no speed demon going north and south. Martin was extreamly shifty east and west with great vision, but fairly slow. Hell Jerome Bettis fat ass had 6 runs of 40 + yards in his career but it did not mean he was fast by any means lol.
Breakaway speed is a very nice feature for a RB, not really necessery, but very nice if he has it. Like Size for WRs or Scrambling ability for QBs. Definitly something to put an eye on.
GiantsBangWagonMan, They aren't slow dude...they'd both beat your ass, and 95% of the NFL's d-linemen and linebackers, in a race. Bettis and Martin are Hall of Famers. I bet you think Ahmad Bradshaw is better than Curtis Martin already? and Brandon Jacobs has elite speed too, huh?
I think Tomas Jones is a great runningback and all he needs is a hole. The fact that he ran for 1100 yards last year with little girls making holes for him is amazing. I think we should think of getting a RB somewhere deeper in the draft but I like the fact that a flood of talent at RB will open us up to positions we need to fill that have been compromised by other teams picking a RB. No matter what this helps where we sit whether we pick one or not.
Wow your an asshole. By RB standards.. they are slow. For the record, I desperately want Stewart. If the top 5 are gone.. I say Stewart is our guy.
It's funny, because I always liked Yvenson Bernard better than Stewart. I'm sorry, Bernard just looks more like an NFL running back to me when I see him play. And he has a catchy name. With Yvenson, D'Brickashaw, Marques, Laveranues, and Jerricho on offense, our opponents will have too much trouble figuring out our players' names to even bother with strategy. Advantage: Jets. Ooooh, yeah. But seriously, I think Bernard will be able to play at the NFL level despite how low down the totem pole he is (draft wise) at the moment.
Bernard is a small guy. I seriously doubt he'd ever get 300 carries in any season. Stewart, on the other hand, is a big physical back with moves. Some of his moves remind me of Chuck Foreman with the spinning and hurdling. Stewart is likely to be a workhorse back. I have him rated as the #2 RB in the 2008 draft.
Bernard is very small. McFadden, Stewart, Mendenhall, and Jones should all become workhorse running backs.
I cant decide if I want to "reach" on Stewart at 6. Or grab Jacob Hester in round 4 or 5. With Stewart, it really gets rid of Jones and Washington. With Hester, he could slowly take over for Jones, and then split time with Washington.
So you want to pass on a player that could possibly be the best running back in the draft, and take a wannabe Brian Leonard? Darren McFadden Rashard Mendenhall Jonathan Stewart These are the BIG 3. I think that Mendenhall will be the best.
We dont have much of a choice. Mendenhall doesnt have enough hype to go 6, Stewart could be a reach, and McFadden might not be there. This isnt FA here. Also I think Washington is a very good RB. We just need a bruiser. Hester could do that along with blocking/catching/SPECIAL TEAMS. Its a closer arguement than you think.
i can't understand why everyone seems to be forgetting about tjones. if we improve our line, don't you think it will improve the rb position? not to mention the passing game, and qb. i don't care who runs the ball, without us improving the o line, we are in the same boat.
