actually...if Pedro was at these cock fights and theyre legal in the D.R then I dont see how this is even newsworthy. Or threadworthy
PETA and other groups have repeatedly conducted undercover investigations at chicken farms and slaughterhouses in the United States which they allege confirm their claims of cruelty. If you don't like it, stop eating chicken. Tell your wife, kids, or girlfriend too. If you want to equate the killing of chickens, to the killing of domesticated dogs, you are delusional.
From what I understand from my Puerto Rican step-grandfather who used to raised roosters for cock-fighting, often the losing rooster in the fight ends up being somebody's dinner... I'm not fan of the idea of cock-fighting, but it's not one one-millionth as horrific as dog fighting... Hell, I had 10 chicken drumsticks for dinner... That'd 5 dead chickens right there....
This is a total non-story that isn't even worth the bandwidth it consumes. Apart from the fact that cockfighting is legal and a significant part of Dominican culture, who are we to judge the morality of other nations and other cultures? We have no regard for cows other than food and leather, yet they happen to be sacred animals in Hindu culture. We have worse living conditions for chickens going on in chicken farms than cockfighting. PETA euthanizes thousands of pets each year, and they all happen to be of far greater intelligence than a bird that I ate for dinner anyway. Our government commits international war crimes. We waterboard political prisoners. Morality is relative. This country can be as backwards as any other at times. As for this story, it's not our concern. Pedro wasn't a participant in the cockfight (more like a grand marshal or honorary guest) and even if he did, he didn't do anything wrong by Dominican law and his ethical code as a native Dominican isn't going to be the same as that of an American. Of course, I expect nothing less from the fearmongering and ethnocentric media than a story like this making the news.
bravo bravo. we're fuckin worrying about chickens? theres at least 4 different packages of various chicken parts frozen in my freezer right now.....what do I care about chickens?
Apparently now it turns out that this video is two years old (according to the folks on PTI), which makes this even more of a nonstory than it already was.
From here on out, the only time I want to read any cockfighting news is if they change the name "Rooster Coliseum" to "Coliseum o' Cock".
