Linebacker: The Jets are in an interesting position at the LB spot this offseason. The emergence of rookie David Harris might just have made fish out of water Jon Vilma expendable. There's little denying that Vilma's production has tailed off since the implementation of Eric Mangini's 3-4 scheme, and with Harris playing lights out most of the season it appears that the Jets have found the man in the middle that they've been looking for. The extent of Vilma's injury may put the Jets in a position where it will be more worthwhile too see how he plays at RILB along Harris and whatever addition the Jets bring in to play ROLB. Eric Barton is serviceable and David Bowens is a solid option for passing downs. If the Jets bring in a guy like Gholston, Bryan Thomas recaptures his 06' form, and Vilma can play in harmony next to Harris, the Jets LB core could become one of, if not the best in the league. After a slow start Kerry Rhodes (along with the rest of the defense) came on towards the end of he season. His numbers should have earned him his first PB appearance, but with living legends like John Lynch (snicker) still active, he'll have to wait for his turn. Hank Poteat has preformed admirably in his role, and Justin Millers return could help the group out even more if he can put it all together on the defensive side of things. I like this concept immensly, and it is a nice twist on all of the "mock offseasons" we have been seeing and will continue to see until mid-march. But I do agree that Rogers-Cromartie should be on the draft prospects for the secondary, and I also think that throwing guys like James Hardy and Limas Sweed on the prospect list for WR in the second round as well. I think Hardy is 6-7 and is projected late first early second. And if we end up trading down in round 1, I could definately see Limas Sweed as a target there.
Good post man, I would add a couple FA OL like J. Gross, S. Locklear & J. Bell. This FA sets up perfectly for the Jets to fix the OL, a bunch of good young OL will be available. There is no reason the Jets shouldn't get some combination of two OLineman.
List updated. I was hesitant on including Suggs only because it seems like the Ravens intend to get him resigned. Added because it has not happened yet.
No help for the DL? I'm surprised, because the Jets generated almost no pressure on passing downs last season. With Revis and Rhodes in the secondary, it's one of the few positions I wouldn't be upset if we didn't upgrade. Generating a pass rush could potentially aid the DB's (and LB's for that matter) more then another solid corner. OL seems to just about be the unanimous top choice though.
Tribble is a cover 2 CB, I know we looked at him but mangini wants man and that is something that Tribble cannot do
Long-term contract talks between the Ravens and prospective free agent Terrell Suggs are expected to intensify soon. Defensive coordinator Rex Ryan has made it a point to say he wants Suggs back in 2008. The Ravens will probably franchise tag Suggs in late February, then begin a concerted push to lock him up well into the next decade. upgrading both lines is a must, a solid left guard, a run stopping dt, and a pass rushing de, linebackers need to be upgraded, and we need another cb, but i truly believe w/our cap situation that at least 3 out of these 5 positions can be taken care of via free agency, the rest the draft should take care of, remember we got the #6 pick
He's in there, but since when is a FB a play maker? I would get rid of the term "playmaker" and just add WR, as well as a FB position. Than we could go for a day 2 RB for depth. So honestly, we should have a RB, FB, and WR listing because we will have newcomers at all 3. Not a bad concept I like this list, but I have a few nitpicks and additions. For OL, we only need 40% of it to be filled. Gholston should not be listed under DL. You can also list Matt Ryan as a QB prospect, as well as Kenny Phillips as a DB. I may be wrong but Ben Troupe of Tennessee should be a free agent to look at at TE.
Fair enough. It started out as a smaller post over in PH but it's evolving, and I'm editing as people make suggestions. Schmitt was not actually on the list, along with most of the others named so far in this thread. I'll switch "Playmakers" to "Skill positions" for now, and add the players mentioned to there respective categories. Part of the problem is that there's a 100,000 character limit for each post. Everytime I add something I need to trim the fat. Maybe I'll just cut out the breakdowns, they're vague as it is and most people know where the issues lie with this team anyway.
I think if Owen Schmitt is available at the start of the 3rd round it would be worth a shot. Part of our stagnate running game can be attributed to not having a good lead blocker. It would great if this guy could stay back and pick up Blitzes as well. The Patriots (though I hate them beyond belief) are masters at picking up the Blitz.

Williams is a good prospect, thats why he's on the list. Suggs has been quite productive himself and he's also young...roto says he's younger then Williams in fact. His sack total was down this season but so was his team as a whole. Is there a good reason not to want Suggs?
