Great deal, the money is no issue at all. The Mets went just another NL team to legit WS contenders if not favorites with this deal. I expected him to get more than he got, great job OMar!

At least you got him signed. For the next couple of years, I would think you have one of the best pitchers in baseball, if not the best. But seven years is a long time for a pitcher...

Because it's not your money. Well, it kind of is, if you go to games or buy his jerseys and such.

I like the signing for the Mets. Basically stole Johan away from the Twins, so it was all a matter of the contract, but now that that's out of the way, it should be a fun season for Mets fans for the next 7 seasons (barring any injury of course).

I can only imagine what numbers he might/is capable of putting up in the N.L :eek:hmy:

You know what Tom Glavine's and Shaun Green's combined salaries were last year. Oh, about 20 million. Oh, and Carlos Delgado's and Felipe Alou's salaries come off after this year. Oh, about another 25 million. Oh, and the Mets move into CitiField next year and get about another 20 million from CitiBank for naming rights. And the Mets raised ticket prices already next year 20% and have already sold 2 million tickets. And SNY ratings go thru the roof when Santana pitches and their advertising revenue goes up about 5 million a year. This deal was truly a no brainer.

Congrats Mets fans on completing by far the steal of the year. Although I see the Mets being a little better this year, I believe the intensity on our rivalry just increased a few notches.

This logic is the same crap you try to use against the Yankees.

So, it is OK to spend when you have the money?:breakdance:

Your first mistake was using the word logic.

Very good point. But the Mets are still under the luxury tax threshold. If the Yankees signed Santana for the same money, the real cost would have been way over 30 million with the luxury tax added.

The tax threshold is 136 million.

You do not think the Mets will reach that?

And as long as you stay under the 136 million, it's OK to complain about the Sox and Yankees (both over)?

For purposes of the luxury tax, the Mets' payroll stands at $114.2 million for 20 signed players, including $10 million in benefits. Add in midpoints for the four players remaining in arbitration, and it's up to $125.1 million.

Figuring in the addition of Santana at more than $25 million, several players making close to the minimum $390,000 and 10 or so on option to the minor leagues, and the Mets' payroll will approach the $155 million luxury tax threshold for 2008; but not exceed it.

The Mets pay their accountants alot of money...

You think Carlos Santana is going to make a windfall from all his music being played next year at Shea?

You've got to change your evil ways... baby
    Before I stop loving you.
    You've go to change... baby
And every word that I say, it's true.
You've got me running and hiding
    All over town.
You've got me sneaking and peeping
    And running you down
    This can't go on...
Lord knows you got to change... baby.
