http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3224116 ESPN confirms the two sides to be far apart...Personally, not very concerned about it, it will get done, - BUT - Any mention of Kyle Lohse completely turns my stomach. He was a marginal prospect for the Twins 5 years ago - he has done nothing in his careeer. I'ds rather have Trachsel back....
Theres no reason for the Mets to even negotiate. Don't worry about pinching pennies with Johan Santana. Do that elsewhere. Just get this done
If the reports about Johan's current demands are correct, there is no reason to negotiate. Those are fair terms, and the fanbase needs the peice of mind that it is done.
Since the deal falling apart would be FAR worse for the Mets than it never having happened at all, it's hard to believe that ultimately it won't get done. I could believe that the Mets are pitching the possibility of 5 years guaranteed, with more money up front, a generous buyout for the 6th year, and an easy-to-achieve way of guaranteeing the 6th year on the basis of something like innings pitched in years 4 and 5 (or year 5 alone). There's no harm in trying, but ultimately it just seems too disastrous for the Mets to let this fall apart.
He will pitch in Queens for years. Mark it down. Then when he does sign I will brag like I called it or something. haha.

There is no way in hell this deal doesn't get done. Both parties have too much to lose for it not to get done.
I actually have the program.... it's an awesome game. Somewhat unrealistic because if you play with the Mets the Braves 9 time out 10 will spend more money. I won 100 games one year and finished 15 games out of 1st place. It never fails either as your big time pitchers get hurt, I have a rotation of Johan, CC Sabathia and Ervin Santana with Maine and Pelfrey as my 4 and 5, my lineup is Reyes, Matt Kemp, Wright, Beltran, Matt Holiday, Billy Butler, Josh Fields and Russ Martin and I can't make the playoffs.
As far as the Santana deal .... I'll leave it at this. I can tolerate losing, I can tolerate stupidity but I can't tolerate fucking with the fans. I was close after the Milledge trainwreck but if they don't get this done I am done with the franchise. I say that knowing a deal will get done because they will have to get a deal done even if it means caving in at the last moment.
Not that it's going to happen (there's no way this deal doesn't get done), but it would be absolutely hilarious to me if, after all the unnecessary and ridiculous chest-puffing about acquiring Santana, the deal falls through and he then winds up on the Yanks... traded some middling package like Kennedy, Horne and Tabata. I would laugh my ass off.
