Great Job to all of the GMs.....I hope everyone enjoyed the Mock..I did. I will be setting up the 7 Rd Mock in about 3 or 4 weeks for late March after Spring Break.
My pseudo-unbiased review. I used the Scouts, Inc. rankings on ESPN.com to make my picks and use as a draft board. From that I calculated the average "value" for each pick made. No surprise, my teams were tops because I knew the rankings going in. It may be a good barometer of the 30 other teams that participated though. I'm not sure when these rankings were updated last so some examples of wide variations were Barry Richardson picked 102 spots higher than he was ranked, Athyba Rubin 176 spots higher and John Carlson 36 spots lower than he was ranked. Obviously it isn't perfect and if they or I update the rankings I might update the calculations. I would love to do that as well. Are we still going two teams per owner or will it be dropped to 1 for the 7 Round Mock Draft
Green Bay Packers Picks: 30: Dan Connor, LB, Penn State 61: Jack Ikegwuonu, CB, Wisconsin 92: Yvenson Bernard, RB, Oregon St. Indianapolis Colts Picks: 60: Frank Okam, DT, Texas 94: Jonathan Goff, LB, Vanderbilt
Winners 1. New England(Hurts me to say that but NE had the best day 1 by far. They had their pick taken away from them earlier in the year but were STILL able to do good stuff, even though they had the last pick in both round 2 and 3. Kenny Phillips as of this moment is slated to get picked around the 7-15 area so it was good enough pick. Absolutely liked the Roy Schuening pick, hes the best guard in this draft by far and its a typical Belichick move. Jamaal Charles is one of THE steals of the draft, this guy will be a force RB in the NFL. Him and Maroney together will be a pain in the butt. And they got a nice little pickup in Leman to take over the aging LB core in NE. Solid draft, cant find one pick to hate) 2. Dallas(Jabba did a very, very good job here. Harvey was a very fine pickup considering hes an top 20 talent whos rising. Mendenhall I have heard great things about and to get him towards the end of round 1 was a great pickup. Now one of my favorite picks in THE ENTIRE draft was Devin Thomas from MSU. This guy will be something very good in the NFL, I have seen this guy vs ND(Big Irish fan here) and this guy just picks apart the secondary like taking candy from a baby. Trae Williams will be picked early to mid Round 3 so to get him towards the very end of the day only helps this stellar draft) 3. Atlanta(You know Atlanta will take Matty Ice with McFadden off the board so from a realistic standpoint, this was the pick to go. Pat Sims is a borderline 1st rounder and to get him in the middle of the 2nd round was a great move. Felix Jones was a YPC machine in Arkansas and he will compliment Norwood very nice at the big back. Not too big of a Henderson fan because I felt there might have been another way to go but that cant stop this great draft Atlanta hauled for themselves) 4. Miami(The only thing that takes this draft down a bit was the fact they got to pick 1st in every round, which is pretty much what put Atlanta below NE and DAL but thats the only ''problem'' I had with this awesome draft Jabba had for them. Chris Long I absolutely like alot and he as of now could be the No.1 pick. You then nab Balmer who has been a high riser in the draft and a guy alot of scouts feel can make the 1st round with ease. Chris Johnson is an freak on the track and is a super fast kid who made defenders look silly in ECU, Flacco still has something to prove in the combine after a iffy senior bowl but I have no doubts about him being the franchise QB in South Beach he's got alot of intangibles that Parcells will like.) 5. Houston(There were a few teams who could have landed here IMO but when you take into equation that they used a 2nd rounder on the franchise QB(Schuab)I think thats why Houston ended up here. Not sure if the Rivers pick was a major heist since I think Keith needs to be in some systems to succeed but Houston is absolutely one of them. Like alot of small LBs, they rely upon the success of the D-Line and Houston has one of THE best in Okoye, T Johnson, and Mario Williams. Rivers can be a very beneficial player in Houston. Slaton gets some slack but he can be a useful RB if the O-Line can allow him to be one and the Texan O-Line has steadily improved. Add that he can fit in what Gary Kubiak looks for in his RB and that was a very nice pick. The only thing I would have liked to see was a Safety taken by Houston but I understand the GM only had 2 picks to work with. Good draft nonetheless). Close Calls- TEN, ARI, MIN. The 5 teams I thought were disappointing will be up later.
I think the biggest steal of RD 1 went to you, your Bengals, with Sedrick Ellis at #9 Overall You should have submitted that pick while wearing a mask and carrying a gun
I dont know about Ellis as a big time steal, the only team who could take a flier upon Ellis is Oakland but outside of that he may go to CIN. Ellis has looked great the past few weeks but just alot of 3-4 teams are picking with top picks so they cant fit with Ellis.
It will still be 2 Teams per GM. I find that when 32 Gms enter the equation, the commitment level falls big time. I'd rather have 16 dedicated GMs than a watered down group of 32. If anyone disagrees, let me know. BTW, there were 3 GMs (Scikotics, Hasty & Kurt) that are very dedicated that couldn't get into this draft or had to drop out for whatever reason, so I will add 3 more for a total of 19. So 6 Gms may have only 1 Team. If a Current GM isn't going to commit to this draft, let me know, this draft should take about 3 weeks of daily checking the board. It's a Huge commtment of your time. The 7 Rd. Mock Draft will start on March 29th, that is the Sat after Easter. I will be in California from March 19th to March 26th on Spring Break with my family. DW, Kids & I are going to San Diego and LA area....San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Lego Land, Universal Studios....Yada Yada. I will have all the Boards and GMs posted long-before Spring Break.
i feel that there are enough good posters here, who follow the Draft, to set it up with 1 Team per GM. Maybe we can get some "Backup-GMs" as well, so if one doesn?t make his pick in time, the next GM gets his Team. How many wanted to take part in this one?
I only asked last year's GMs first and 4 or 5 didn't respond or were unable, and then invited new ones that inquired and were regulars on this DraftBoard. FWIW, inyears past when we have had 32 GMs,the draft bogs down from no-shows...Last year was the first year I can ever remember finishing an entire 7 Rd on TGG using 16 GMs. Green Huriccane and I agreed 16 GMs was the best way to get a full commitment.
