If the Jets pass on drafting a NT this year (bryant, rubin, shirley, etc) and decide that Pouha is ready to take over the spot, how angry would you be? Knowing our franchise this may happen.... or do I sound like Champ right now?
Honestly, I'd be OK with Pouha starting at NT. That being said, I'd also like to see us bring in a guy like Ahtyba Rubin in the draft or Isaac Sopoaga via free agency to give this team more options.
I think on the surface, Pouha has the ability to play the NT spot effectively as a starter. However, he needs to gain endurance this offseason in order to not wear down late in games..as he currently is only good for about 20-25 snaps a game. As for options, I agree I'd like to see one more body e brought in to provide depth and stability, and assuming D rob stays and is moved to DE...he's another option for a few defensive sets. One thing to consider: I havent seen alot of film on him...but many including Mike Mayock believe not only would Sedrick Ellis make a great 3-4 NT...but that it's the position that fits him best on the next level. We shall see. If that is the case... a man w/ his size, and athletic attributes, who plays an effective 34 Nose...would be an awfully tough thing to pass up for this franchise(dependin on what we do in free agency).
You need to have a couple of guys who can play there unless you know one of them is solid. Really you need to have two good guys anyway so an injury to the starter does not cripple your 3-4. So, yes, I'd be very pissed if the Jets passed on NT's in the draft and free agency. That'd be a recipe for another weak season on the defensive side of the ball.
There really aren't a lot of guys in the draft other than Bryant and Okam who fit the NT position. I think the best way to go is to get a NT in a free agency like Ethan Kelley or Issac Sopoaga as a stop gap solution until next year. Next year's draft has guys like Terrance Taylor and Raji who fit the NT position a lot better. Right now with a good free agency and a draft that gets a pass rushing OLB and DE this team will contend.
Alot of people think Sedrick ellis is not only a great fit at 3-4 NT...but that he is a BETTER fit at it than in the 4-3.
Red Bryant is more suitable to be a 3-4 End than anything else. I would assume that Frank Okam would have trouble playing in the NFL at any position from what I've seen of him.
Theres really no true NT for a thirty four in this draft , Guys that are will be projects and we need a solid NT to come in and play right away... Red Bryant i see some potential but thats really it... Maybe we get Shaun Rogers or Isaac Sopoaga... Two big wildabeast that can move lines back for a change.
They do but I don't see him on the depth chart for the browns. At least not at nfl.com. Overall it seems like we have a better shot at an FA NT than something in the draft. We can probably get both considering the prototypical NTs will likely go on the second day.
Browns DT Ethan Kelley had surgery on his injured knee. Head coach Romeo Crennel's comments on the surgery seemed to indicate that it was of microfracture variety. Recovery from such a procedure would make it far less likely that Cleveland would want to re-sign him and rely on him again as a starter. Source: scout.com I was a big fan of going after Ethan Kelley in FA, but he does have a history of getting injured the past 3yrs in a row.
Yep, and both will rise as the draft gets closer...especially Rubin. I know next to nothing about Morton though.
