I apologize for not being here today and holding up the draft. The good thing is Martin Rucker was chosen for the Lions 3rd round pick. I would have made that same choice anyway.

The 3 round mock has come to a close for the Vikings and Bucs, a review:

    Vikings:
    1. Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
    2. Chad Henne, QB, Michigan
    3. Craig Steltz, S, LSU
    4. Chris Ellis, DE, Virginia Tech

Review: The goal with my first 4 picks with the Vikings was to address key problems on their defense and to get them a QB of the future. Defense first: Their secondary has been totally blowing it and is a big reason, in my opinion, that they weren't in the playoffs. McKelvin and Steltz should secure the secondary sufficiently. McKelvin was the best corner on the board and Steltz I took over Zbikowski because of his performance throughout his senior year. Every time the ball was in the air he seemed to be around it breaking up plays or intercepting the ball. He also can do some return work. Ellis was a last minute change from my draft board. I originally was going to go for a backup to Hutchinson, but opted against it in the 3rd round because of value. Ellis will be brought in to help rack up more sacks and nothing more. As for Henne, I think he blew up this week in the senior bowl and put down doubts that he's one of the top 3 QBs in this draft.

    Bucs:
    1. Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
    2. Patrick Lee, CB, Auburn
    3. Mike Hart, RB, Michigan

Review: The Bucs are a good team. If I have them in the 7 rounder, look for me to go after WRs after round 3. Cherlius can replace their present LT which we all know has been a disappointment. Their secondary is old or ineffective (pick one) and thats where Lee comes in. Lastly, I was torn on the Hart pick because I wanted a prior RB taking (wont say which) and wanted a certain FB as well for this team but decided that their RB corps is officially devastatated after injuries, players leaving for free agency and the loss of Cadillac to a career threatening injury. I did end up going for Hart and I'll hope he produces in Tampa better than he did towards the end of his senior year in Michigan.

    Thoughts?

Thanks. It was a split decision pick. I figured he was too good for value to pass up and go for another position. He'd fit great in the Vikings defense.

    Warhound....Nice Job.

I really like 3 of your Vikings picks.....I'm not sold on Steltz being a fultime NFl starter, should be a great ST player. I picked DeCoud right after you....I believe he has more upside. Ellis was a great Value, that Kid can get after the QB...Hope he stays away from the Law.

Bucs...no complaints, Mike Hart should be a solid back, not flashy , but should be a good 2nd back for the Bucs.

Dude, anytime. Thanks for having me. I'm itching for the 7-rounder (as you all know). It was a shitty two days at work otherwise i would've posted more myself. However, you can totally count on me for the 7 rounder.

As for the questions about Steltz, I concur that he's not the best safety in the draft and how well he'll transfer to the NFl is in question. He does however, hit you hard enough to forget your name and is a ball hawk. His special teams skills should land him a spot on the team and some transitioning in a year or two should make him a starter.

and PS: I was torn between Ellis and Branden Albert, and Albert went in the next pick to the Skins.

DAFB.......Bengals are way ahead of the game with Ellis....He's not going to last to the Bengals come April. I expect Ellis to be a top 6 pick at worst.

Thanks for Joining up......Late March is the 7 Rd Mock.

German, Earl Bennett was a very good pick

I hate the Red Bryant selection before yours .. hated it .. cause I wanted Bryant to fall a few more spots to my Cowboys!

    45 Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers
    76 Barry Richardson, OT, Clemson

    Steelers
    23 Sam Baker, OT, USC
    54 Shawn Crable, LB, Michigan
    89 Earl Bennett, WR Vanderbilt

Might as well post both the Cardinals and Rams Day 1 picks

    Arizona
    16. Aqib Talib CB Kansas
    51. Quentin Groves DE/OLB Auburn
    82. Kevin Smith RB Central Florida

    St Louis
    2. Glenn Dorsey DT LSU
    34. Reggie Smith S/CB Oklahoma
    66. Tony Hills Jr OT Texas

I have a few winners already pictured in my head, one really stood out though. Only way this team gets knocked off from the top spot is if they draft a stinko in Round 3, because thus far this team has done a stud job IMHO.

EDIT: Its down to 2 teams for the No.1 spot on my winners board. Both have a 3rd rounder waiting so that may push one over the other.

Ill post 5 winners and 5 losers with reasons. Hopefully nobody gets offended by any of it, its all in fun.

Baker............I have no problem you rating the drafts, but be prepared to take the heat when people don't agree with your review. You know, the good with the bad.

IMO, I believe rating drafts, right after it ends, is about as worthless as the empty Roll of Toiletpaper in a pay toilet:) A true evaulation should be done at least after the season and even better, 3 years later.

You are welcome to rate the drafts.....Go for it.
