Jan. 26, 2008 Home > The Way We Hear It ~ ~ ~ NY Jets Jan. 25, 2008 Jets' defense expected to man up After playing mostly zone schemes in 2007, expect the Jets to go with more man looks in 2008. Sources tell us that head coach Eric Mangini wants to employ a more aggressive brand of defense, but that he didn?t feel comfortable leaving his cornerbacks on an island for much of the past season. For starters, this season?s defense was very young, particularly in the secondary. After a year of seasoning, however, they should be up to the task. The rapid development of rookie CB Darrelle Revis stands as the most prominent reason the Jets will be able to make a smooth transition. After a couple of early-season hiccups, Revis did an admirable job of clamping down on opponents' No. 1 receivers, such as he did against the likes of Braylon Edwards and Randy Moss. The David Barrett-Hank Poteat combination at the other CB spot doesn?t inspire the same type on confidence, but we hear the return of Justin Miller could be a big boon. Miller spent the majority of the season on injured reserve with a bum knee, and is said to be among the fastest and most agile players on the team. > http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/default.htm
There can be no man-to-man coverage regardless of the talent in the secondary until the Jets develp a pass rush.
I dont know about drafting another corner. I think that means hes planning on getting more pass rush.
God I want Miller to contribute in more than just special teams! Its aggravating, because you know he has so much potential.
Hopefully he'll be just as fast when he comes back. He has a lot of potential but I think he still has light years of experience to gain before he can be a certifiable #2 CB.
Supposeldy he was on his way last season, its really to bad when a young player begins to hit his stride and then gets hurt
Plus, Miller seems better suited for man defense than zone (he was kinda slowwww) (in the head). But imagine drafting another corner and ahving a secondary of Revis, Rhodes, Miller (in the slot) and say, Leodis McKelvin or whoever. It kind of makes sense when you play the Pats twice a year.
I strongly suggest we draft pass rushers at Lb and D-line with our first two picks. With no pass rush it makes no difference who is at Cb! Until we put Tom Brady on his a** on a consistent basis we will never make it to the next level.
That is why we drafted Revis. He has potential to be a shutdown cover corner, which means he can play man all day long and not be a liability. I hope this info is true, it could help the passrush big time.
Justin Miller big boon to the secondary. I luv reading national guys stories about the Jets. What is high. Hell, all he was good for was kick returns. How bout generating a pass rush from the guys up front first
pass rush, Pass Rush, PASS RUSH Zone or man-to-man -The better the pash rush the better the secondary.
we still do NOT have the players we need to run a good 3 - 4 D. it's gonna take a while longer to " stock-up". yes , it will be painful to watch cheers ~ ~ ~
