I actually have had this thought in my mind for a while, what if the draft went like this

    1. Dorsey
    2. Chris Long
    3. Jake Long
    4. DMC
    5. Gholston

or all of those players get selected in another order in the first five, who would be the pick? Ellis has had a great senior bowl, but the question is can he play DE in the 3-4, because right now I don't think he is big enough for NT. Thoughts?

i doubt we pick up ellis, if he can?t adopt to the 34, we got two 43 DTs, who don?t fit the system, and we drafted both of them in the top 6.

if Gholston is gone, right now, i would say, take Philips. Stenghten your strenghts, the need for a second Safety ist there, and he is a good value pick at 6

If Ellis fell we should try and swap picks with the Saints, who may be looking to take Ellis before the Bengals do.

And then we could take a guy like Derrick Harvey who would be less of a reach then.

A 3-4 line of D-Rob (rumors about him moving to DE), Pouha, and Ellis would be tough for any opponent to handle. Thats a lot of meat. Of course, there are issues about what you would do with Shaun Ellis and Coleman.

It would be either Kenny Phillips, Ryan Clady, Jeff Otah or Derrick Harvey if it were up to me.

Why would we take Clady? He's a poor mans D'brick.

If Sweed has a good combine, I wouldn't mind him being picked.

if it fell like you suggested we'd trade out for someone who wanted Ryan, but if you are asking if Ellis is a good fit for us, I say no. But I say no for Gholston, too.

Harvey, Balmer and Sweed or even Crable. I think we have to adress our needs. Saftey is not a need but it would be great to see phillps next to rhodes.

Well if this happens, we have to try everything we can to trade out of the spot for someone who wants the top QB. Now if we are stuck there, but think we can make a deal, we do what the Chargers did with Eli draft him and trade him. If we dont think we can, then we have to take the best available CB whoever becomes the top guy. Since Laurinitis never declared, we dont have him to fall back on, and I seriously doubt a WR will distinguish himself enough to be picked #6. While CB isnt a top need, having the best CB in the draft 2 years runnning mplus kerry rhodes makes for a tantalizing secondary... I love Limas Sweed but his busted hand worries me to much to want him at #6. Also i dont like any of the "top" lineman other than Jake Long. Now i do enjoy the second tier group like Cherilus, and Schuening, but 6 is way to high. Take the top CB if we cant move down. Which at this point appears to be either Jenkins or Talib.

To me he looks like he doesn't have any lateral balance, which means he can't pursue down the line and if someone gets a shove on him he will fall over and in fact I've seen just that happen many many times. He seems to be smart and aware, but he also doesn't seem to have the heart for anything other than pass rushing. He seems to give up when the pay is away from him, he seems to give up when his first move doesn't work and he sems to give up (by diving at the pile rather than keeping his head up and stacking and shedding) when the play is a run. And, probably most importantly for his chances of being drafted by us: he is also not a consistent player, something Mangini loves, and he isn't a versatile player, soemthing Mangini loves.

I think that we to trade down no matter what. There is quite a bit of depth in this draft, and a good chance to improve our team.

Ok, Gholston looks like the pick, but there is always Groves. Campbell may show something at the Combine, and maybe he will put on enough bulk to be a solid 3-4 end.

Bottom line is that the more picks we can come up with the better. Not to mention the higher we pick the cheaper it gets.

interesting................we trade w/ dall to get the 22 and 31......campbell is there at 22 for our 34 de.......groves is there at 31 for the dynamic passrushing OLB we need (he has it all too--speed reports say he can run a 4.4, and strenght, its just that he got injured this year and why he isnt as high). then in the 2nd, we take a T (assuming we havnt addressed it in FA), a playmaking WR, or a NT like Rubin if it isnt a reach.
