For the lazy, over the first 4 rounds for the Jets if goes:

    6. Vernon Gholston, DE/OLB, Ohio State
    36. Early Doucet, WR, LSU
    67. Mike McGlynn, OT, Pittsburgh
    98. Ahtyba Rubin, NT, Iowa State

With the way this draft works out, I'd probably rather grab James Hardy at WR in the second because he'd be a big target for Clemens at 6-7 (Doucet is only 6-0) or Gosder Cherilus at 36 and a WR like Earl Bennet in the 3rd. Regardless, we nab a monster pass rusher, much needed WR depth, a guy who can fill in at RT or LG on our line, and possibly the best prototypical NT in the draft with a ton of potential. Make one of the changes I listed above and I think you've got a winner.

I really don't see us drafting a WR this year, particularly not in the 2nd round. And I'm not sure Rubin lasts till round 4. I say don't mess with it and draft him in the 3rd.

    6. Vernon Gholston - OLB
    36. Gosder Cherilus - RT
    67. Ahtyba Rubin - NT

The only way we should be drafting WR's is if we get some extra day 1 picks via trade.

Why not though? We have NOTHING beyond Coles and Cotch that's worth a damn right now (maybe Stuckey will prove himself next year, but who knows). and we haven't had a big target since Keyshawn. On top of that, Coles is likely out of here sooner rather than later and this is a pretty deep WR draft, with mid-late first round talent likely available through the middle of the second round at the position. I feel like it would be a good decision to take advantage of that.

As far as Rubin goes, I was saying that the way this draft panned out with where draft stocks currently are, I think it's a good pick. I think we could also address NT in FA and make a rotation at the position with Pouha and someone like Ethan Kelley. That would make it less of a need in the third and if Rubin falls to the 4th, we can still nab him.

As much as I would love for us to draft an OT w/the 2nd pick, it just seems like OT is a position we could fill in FA (Stacy Andrews, Jordan Gross maybe). I think we need to get our hands on a WR through the draft in the 2nd round because the ones in FA stink (Bryant Johnson, Bernard Berrian).
