When you are pocketing money from the salary cap instead of securing players are you not increasing the value of the franchise at the expense of the fans & the team? You do remember Woody did that last off season do you not? As a season tix holder for some years with zero ROI I am curious why would you even defend Woody whose record right now is 0-8 in making the SB while Kraft is 4-8? Let Woody & Kraft swap franchises & you will see how fast the Pats go down the tubes.
JWWS the 1/2 new stadium & Florham Park just increase the franchises value & do ZERO in improving the quality of players. You have been a season tix holder I think so why would you continue to defend Woody who is 0-8 in bringing a SB to us while Kraft is 4-8. That is a very, very poor ROI. In fact MHO is if Woody & Kraft swapped franchises you would see how fast the Pats go into the crapper
i don't follow. Are you saying that since the Pats are in 4-8 of the last SB's that the other NFL teams who have not won in that stretch (excl. pats, colts, steelers) that 87% of NFL owners dont' care if there teams win or improve? i smell bullsh!t...
Are you still going to sit there and pretend that my questions don't exist? Come on, you've had a full night to sleep on those responses.
H'mmm where is my reply as why Woody is 0-7 in getting us to the SB & Kraft is 4-7 in the same period of time. How can you explain that? Also why are you defending an owner who is brought us NOTHING in his 8 years of ownership except ripping us fans off?
2000: 9-7 (3rd) 2001: 10-6 (3rd) 2002: 9-7 (1st tie) 2003: 6-10 (4th) 2004: 10-6 (2nd) 2005: 4-12 (4th) 2006: 10-6 (2nd) 2007: 4-12 (3rd) Using the Jets record over that time period to illustrate, here's my problem (admitting that this might be unique to me): Over those eight years, the Jets have made not one ounce of progress. For every moderately successful year, they follow with an utterly disastrous one. We've seen changes in coordinators, made "last piece of the puzzle" player acquisitions (Law, Nugent), changed systems. After each poor year, we've been encouraged (impliedly) to be patient until (a) players learn new systems, (b) young players mature, or (c) our head coach grows into the job (ugh!!). In 2008, we're waiting to see if Kellen Clemens matures, and, at the same time, debating trades for our LAST great hope - Jonathan Vilma. Or, before that, Chad Pennington. My point of all this is to say, if I thought we were actually building something, I might not be upset right now. I might be content to be patient - for now. What in this eight-year history, though, tells us that we've been doing anything but running a loop of failed promises? 2008's agenda is that I have to wait to see if Kellen is "the guy." If he isn't, we have to start THAT one over again. By the time we've found our "next guy," the personnel around him will have changed, and we'll need more "new guys" at other position. Continuously plugging holes in the leaking ship. When will this cycle stop and when will we move into a progress phase? I have no clue. But, I do know that, with a multi billion dollar television contract, the NFL Network, and new NFL revenue streams every day, the value of the franchise over that same period has increase by HUNDREDS of millions. This is where Champ is spot-on, in my opinion: there's one guy who HAS done very well over that eight-year period. Meanwhile, my own investment of time, emotion, and money, has returned nothing but failed promises. And, I no longer care how that might be on par with other NFL teams. I no longer CARE what other teams are doing or not doing.
This is my position in a nutshell. The Jets are not doing enough to improve on a year over year basis to even cover their talent losses. Let's say Vilma is traded for an unproven commodity over the course of this offseason. What that will have done is to weaken the commitment the Jets made to their very short draft last season by losing a key piece (circa 2005) shortly after they added Harris and Revis. Somewhere in here the Jets need to pick a spot and stand on it and build frenetically until they've got the best possible team that money and solid drafting can create. All the Kenyon Colemans and David Barretts and Anthony Clements in the world aren't going to improve the Jets chances at all. At best that kind of signing tries not to fail too badly as other spots are being added. I've seen how franchises that are building into a force operate and the Jets have not been in that mode since at least 2000. They've been doing penny wise and pound foolish things since at least 2003 and you could argue more like 2001. Why on earth would you trade up three times in the first round in seven years and not once select a player that people were absolutely certain was headed for stardom? Santana Moss, Dewayne Robertson and Darrelle Revis may all have been the best player available at their positions (definitely not for the first two) but they certainly weren't star power in the making at the time the Jets mortgaged their future by trading so many picks to select them.
And in nutshell, you hit the jackpot as to why they have been so inconsistent. This goes all the way back to when we let Aaron Glenn, Marcus Coleman and the right tackle Young (whose first name escapes me) go to Houston in the expansion draft. In essence, we finally replaced Glenn with Revis 7 years later and our second corner may not be as good as Coleman. And though Young didn't pan out in Hoston due to injury, we had to use a draft pick on Mc Kenzie that otherwise would have been used to upgrade a different position. Mc Kenzie was becoming a better tackle than Young when we lost him to free agency and now we are still short on talent at RT. While I understand that these moves were made because of salary cap issues, the bottom line is the talent drain has not been offset by draft picks and free agent signings.
I do not know why instead of responding to my question you posted this. However, I will pose the question in a different way & maybe you will respond. According to my math you have given Woody around 21Gs for your season tix in the 8 years he has owned the team. The equation was average $65.00 per seat X 10 Games X 4 seats= $2,600.00 per year. The average per seat costs could be either a little higher or lower but really does not matter in the overall scheme of things. This does not include gas, tolls, parking, drinks, or any other cost to get to or disburse at the game. It is only the cost of your season tix per year. Now you appear to hold Woody in the most highest regard & I am wondering why. The way I see it so far for your $2,600.00 per year or around 21Gs for the 8 years Woody has owned the team & given you nothing in return but a lossing team right so why would you hold him in such a high esteem? I really would appreciate your logic because since I am the only one NOT defending the Woody I am wondering am I missing something or are you just going on blind faith concerning your opinion of the Woody?
Well you are certainly a man among man. Thanks for the nice words. You know I fully agree with your post. Please see my newest post to 227. Hopefully he or any season tix holder will reply
Because even if we had won one Super Bowl in that time period, you would have resorted to "Woody is only 1 and 7 in bringing us a championship" in every single post. The Patriots have a dynasty on their hands. Good for them. You aren't happy unless we win a championship. I hate to break this to you, but no team is going to win a championship every year. Being constantly miserable and unhappy over a game just because your team didn't win the title is retarded. There are more important things in life than football, but apparently, this is lost on you.
So to sum it our FO & CS has been totally incompetant in Woodys 8 years of your ownership/ Great post
Now without even knowing me how you can you post such garbage? Ah 0-39 is a terrific record for winning a Worlds Championship right?
Because you come across as a completely miserable person in every single one of your posts. The main difference between you and I is that I don't take this game as seriously as you do. You count every year that we don't win a championship. You focus only on the negative regarding the team. If the game makes you that miserable, stop watching it. It's quite simple. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if you were some grey-haired guy with a permanent scowl on his face from being so miserable all the time. There are other things in life besides football.
Well then like I have asked you time & time again give me the positives that I you supposely claim I am missing. Also, please if you do not come up with any plusses to reply to me do not reply to my post with your vile garbage. Just pass my posts by in the futyre. So you do not like my factual time clock also I gather in my signature. All I have to say to that is tough since it is completely ACCURATE & with the beauty of computers save it once & it is there forever so I need have to worry about it till the end of the 08 season
There are positives. I had a great time with my family and friends attending Jets games this season. Also, we have cheerleaders finally. Plus, among others, Don Maynard and Emerson Boozer signed my kids hat, and Gastineau signed his football card. Winning would be nice, but we as fans have no control over it so there's no use whining. I guess you could say I could stop attending games in protest, but why would I wanna be like you?
The only positive in your mind is a championship, so there's really no point in me listing any positives that I take from any season because you view things as black and white, which is a simplistic way to view life. I would list David Harris' emergence as a positive, but since he isn't the #1 LB in all of football, you'll just say he sucks. I would list Revis' progress throughout the year and improving play against the top receivers in the game as a positive, but you'll just say that he let up a TD against TO so he sucks. I could list the improved play of the defense over the second half of the year, especially the pass defense, but since we didn't lead the league in defense, you'll just say they suck. See, it's so easy to say something sucks without giving it any thought. It takes much more to be able to back something up. You just repeat the same thing over and over, and it's never anything positive. But here's the thing, I'm just positive by nature. I look for the positives in every aspect of my life. Judging by the way you post here, you're the complete opposite, and it's really no surprise that we agree on very little. And I havs signatures turned off. What I'm actually talking about you posting the same shit in every post and spamming the boards. I don't even need to turn on the signatures to know that yours is probably whining about something. Basically, I view things like this... Football is just a game to me. I treat it as such. If the Jets win? Great, big deal. On to the next game. If they don't? Oh well. On to the next game. I really don't get too high with a win, or too low after a loss. I have much more important things in my life to worry about than counting how many years it's been since the Jets last won a championship. Football isn't life to me, it's only a game.
