Mike Mayock of NFL Network thinks that Sedrick Ellis can be a 3-4 NT. Apparetnty he is commanding double teams all the time at the Senior Bowl. Can anyone shed light on this?

Don't see it. Ellis is 6'1" 305lbs. He is aterrific prospect as a 3 technique.

No way this guy is a 3-4 NT in the NFL...he just isn't big enough.

Sure weight helps at NT but its not the end of be all. Jason Ferguson is only 310 and has had a pretty successful career as a 3-4 NT. Jay Ratliff is listed at 300. If you have technique and motor you don't have to be a fat ass to play NT. Unfortunately for us we have an undersized NT that can't play the position and blinds us to weight.

You are right in that there are some good NT who aren't 330 lbs. A guy next year who I am looking at as a potential 3-4 NT is Terrence Taylor who is 6-0 and 310 (could add another 10 lbs and be perfect). I compare these types of NT to one of the most underrated ones in football, Kelly Gregg (who, like Taylor, is 6-0, 310). Ellis, althoug he could potentially raise his weight to around 310 (he is more at like 290 right now), he is just not that type of DT. He is a quick, agile DT who gets to the quarterback. He is not a run-stuffing, holding down offensive lineman type DT. Ellis COULD have the right size if he gains some weight, but his style just does not fit at all.

I'll admit I'm very skeptical about Ellis as a 3-4 NT. That said, Mayock is one of the best if not the best draft evaluators around.

No way he is a Three Four NT. Defensive End then yes and could be a very effective one too.

Maybe but nobody is going to take a chance on him as a 3-4 NT unless he falls, and I don't see him falling past the Bengles at #9

Remember Jim Burt (6'0" 285lbs)? I don't know whether I could agree with your statement.

I agree...I never even turned on ESPN's draft coverage last year because I can't stand Kiper.

the only spot ellis could play for us is the nose....

he is too "short" to play DE.

if he is weighing in at 310 or so - he should have no problem putting on 10-15 lbs of muscle the 1st year.

someone to keep in mind if gholston is gone. but it takes time for these college DT's to develop and the greater instant impact for the jets would be gholston, IMO

i wouldn?t want to rule it out completely, Jay Ratliff, and Tank Johnson did a good Job for Dallas this year. Even thou Dallas plays a different 34, than we do, that shows it could work.

But i think the Chances, that it won?t work are much bigger, than the chances, that it works, and if we draft him to play NT, and it doesn?t work, we have 2 43NTs, who we drafted in the top 6, and we don?t know how to use them.
