Do Not Re-Sign/Cut QB Marques Tuiasasopo FB Stacy Tutt WR Justin McCareins TE Sean Ryan TE Jason Pociask OG Adrien Clarke DE Eric Hicks DE Mike DeVito LB Cody Spencer LB Matt Chatham LB Brad Kassel LB Victor Hobson (I would actually like him back, but so far signs point to that being unlikely) CB Andre Dyson CB David Barrett FS Erik Coleman Re-Sign FS Abram Elam - 1 year CB Hank Poteat - 2 years OL Wade Smith - 3 years Signings LB Kawika Mitchell: This is not a player I have seen in any others of these in the past. Mitchell is big and wide, at 6-1, 255, and has really good speed. It is important to have some veteran leadership in a linebacking corps of mostly youngsters and inexperienced DE/OLB tweeners. Mitchell in the middle is perfect next to Harris. I am not sure if he will leave the Giants, especially after this season, but if he does, staying in the same stadium might persuade him to sign with us. OT Stacy Andrews: We all know about him. NT Isaac Sopoaga: 6-2, 325. He is a good NT who switches with Aubrayo Franklin in San Fran. He is still young at 26, and although he is not going to be an all-pro NT, we need someone big and wide to rotate with Pouha and Robertson. Sopoaga will come cheap, and would definitely help us out on the defensive line. DE Tommy Kelly: I have mentioned him before and I really like him. This is I guy I could very realistically see getting interest from us. He has experience as a 3-4 DE and is 6-6, 300 lbs. Is still young, and would give us more experience on that D-Line and a big run-stopper coming from this position. Will also get him a bit on the cheap side because he did have a season-ending injury this past season (another reason why I would realistically see him being considered - he is a cheap, but potentially valuable, option). OG Jake Scott: I see Lilja getting signed over Scott, plus Scott fits the system better as Lilja is pretty small for a o-lineman. Scott is young, but experienced, and comes from a winning program, something that is more valuable than it would seem. A good, solid O-lineman to fit in for the next 5 or so years. OLB Bobby McCray: He will almost definitely not get re-signed by the Jaguars. A sack specialist who recoreded 10 sacks just last season. He would give Thomas a HUGE run for his money, and would really add some competition, and hopeful improvement, to the OLB position. Young (26), Big (6-6, 260), fast (4.55 40 out of college), and knows how to get to the QB. I would adore this signing. With 28 million+ in cap space this off-season, using easy numbers, you give Jake Scott about 4.5 million per year; Mitchell, Kelly and Andrews all about 3 million each per year (each might make a little less, 3 is generous); Sopoaga 2 million per year, and McCray about 1 million, that adds up to 16.5 million for next year, still leaving us with plenty of space. Trades Jonathan Vilma for a mid 2nd-rounder to early 3rd rounder (you get a lot of similar players in this range in this years draft) 5th round pick and next years 3rd rounder for a mid-3rd rounder this year Draft 1. OLB Vernon Gholston, Ohio State - Everyone knows about him. We really need this great pass-rushing OLB and Gholston fits perfectly. Now that we have a defensive playmaker, we are looking pretty good on that side of the ball. It is time to get some real offensive playmakers for this new O-Line and mostly for Clemens. 2. WR James Hardy Indiana - A 3rd WR is a must, especially with Coles getting older and more injury prone. When you have a chance to get a 6-7 WR who is pretty fast and has great hands, and was very productive in college, in the 2nd rounder, you go for it! Hardy is an amazing prospect and probably a top 10 pick if he stays for his senior season. 2. RB Chris Johnson, East Carolina - A RB that goes in the first round or high 2nd round if he wasn't in this years draft class. A 5-11, 200 lb RB that can run a 4.2 is amazing. This is a great guy to develop, and even though RB isn't our biggest need, I think we should get one, because we aren't going to have a RB class like this for a long long time. Johnson is a physical freak who, with development, could be amazing in 2-3 years (when Jones is done) Now we have offensive playmakers, we revert back to defense. Our secondary is good, but not great, we need some players to develop in our secondary, and the 3rd round is where we are gonna do that. 3. CB Dwight Lowery, San Jose State - His name is getting very popular in a very short time. At 6-1 running a 4.35 40, he has some amazing athleticism and skill. He is the definition of an interception machine. A great developmental prospect to draft here. We do not need an immediate starter at CB, he can take a year or two, learn behind Revis, Poteat and even Miller, and be our near future #2 CB. Remember, CB is one of the easiest positions to mold a player. 3. FS DaJuan Morgan, NC State - One of the better FS in this draft. He is a solid tackler, a very good athlete, and pretty darn good in coverage. An overall, all-around, solid FS. Would definitely challenge Elam for the starting spot. 4. OG Andrew Bain, Miami - A suprisingly good athlete at the position, at 330+ lbs. At worst, he is a great backup and provides solid depth, at best he is our future RG. Wonderful against the run, a real road-grader, but needs a bit of work against the past. Overall, a low risk, high reward type of OG. 6. TE/FB Tom Santi, Virginia - We have two very average H-Backs right now in Kowalewski and Pociask. I think Pociask is basically just done. We need someone who can really catch the ball. Santi is a very good pass-catching TE (36 receptions this past season), and has good speed, running around a 4.7-4.8. Would definitley challenge Kowelewski as our starting FB this season. I know everyone wants Hillis or Schmitt, but it is pretty obvious that it is not who is back there, Schotty just doesn't like to use the FB that much, it would be kind of silly to waste a 3rd rounder or so on a FB, when we just don't use them that much. 7. ILB Brannon Jackson, Louisiana Tech - I have never seen him play, so I do not have much to comment on him. All I know, 6-2, 260, 4.7 40. 2008 Final Depth Chart: QB: Kellen Clemens | Chad Pennington | Brett Ratliff RB: Thomas Jones | Leon Washington | Chris Johnson WR1: Laveranues Coles | James Hardy | Chansi Stuckey WR2: Jerricho Cotchery | Brad Smith | Wallace Wright FB: Joe Kowalewski | Tom Santi TE: Chris Baker | *Tom Santi* | James Dearth LT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson | Jacob Bender LG: Jake Scott | Will Montgomery C: Nick Mangold | Wade Smith RG: Brandon Moore | Andrew Bain RT: Stacy Andrews | Anthony Clement LE: Tommy Kelly | Shaun Ellis | C.J. I really like what you did here. Signings are important, and make sense. I'm not a big fan of Mitchell, but Scott and Andrews would be perfect, and they do have the cash to get it done. Bobby McCray is a guy that I always talk about with a friend of mine that's a Jaguar fan, he's always thought that McCray would be better off in a 34 than he ever was in a 43. I like adding the playmakers on offense as well. Well done.
Yeah, not to gloat, but I am actually really happy about that as well. As I was doing this, I was thinking that in most mocks they build the defense but the offense still isn't too great. In a few years, with this mock, we could have: A rocket-armed QB A blazing fast RB An extremely tall touchdown machine type of WR A small, quick, reliable, kind of Wayne Chrebet with more speed WR And a young, dominant, progressing offensive line That is an offense to look forward to.
Sick Off Season man , I Really like it. Sopoaga i agree would be a perfect fit at NT and James Hardy is a Impact reciever at Six Foot Seven he's a absolute beast. Dont like trading Vilma for a third rounder and the draft is questionable except Gholston with our first rounder i think is perfect.
This is the best one I've seen so far. If its $$ reasonable & we can sign Kerry Rhodes long term, I would hope this is the strategy taken. Gets us very good personnel right away.
I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I think drafting James Hardy would be piece #1 in making the Jets a respectable red zone team again. He'd be an absolute nightmare in 1 on 1, and offers more of a size mismatch than Vincent Jackson does. Vincent Jackson abused the NE secondary mainly because of his height. He'd be precisely the weapon the Jets need. Since Schott loves the fade, is there a better option? Get this guy in Green and White.
Chris Johnson from East Carolina is the guy that right now no one knows about, but could potentially be an NFL stud. I've seen 3 East Carolina games this year, incluidng their bowl game. HE is a beast that can get off tackle, makle people miss and run through tackles. He reminds me very much of Rodney Hampton when he came out of Georgia.....
I don't see Chris Johnson being anything other than a scat back in the NFL, he'll get a few hand offs and catch passes out of the backfield but he's not an every down back, and we already have a guy like that in Leon Washington, that's the only thing I didn't like about this mock, overall, it's a great off season
Great mock. If things go down that way, I'd be happy. I love the idea of addressing WR early since it's such a glaring need. We need that third person to take the pressure off Coles and Cotch esp with Coles becoming so injury prone. Great off season.
i would not shell out the cash for kavika mitchell, just to trade vilmafor peanuts, i would either keep vilma and not sign a replacement or draft his replacement with the pick we get for him
