In Oakland he had one the most explosive offenses in the NFL. He also brought the Raiders to the SB. In 2002 the Raiders were 2nd in PPG, 1st in YPG, 1st in Pass YPG, and 1st in 3rd down conversions. But why let facts distort your motive?
Im going to have to disagree with you on this one. Billick has had one of the best defenses in Football for 7-8 years and all he has had to do was develop and offense who could score 20 points a game and he would have won more than one superbowl. The sight of the Ravens Defensive players crying on the sidelines after playoff games because they could not score points year after year was sickening! IMHO I think Billick is not the man to coach our offense.
That is OK but somehow I think once you go up the ladder to HC your whole thinking process changes for reason I am not quite sure why yet which is what I think occurred to Billick amonst other OC to HC that failed
You're not quite sure about a lot of things, but I digress. It's been awhile, so my champanese is a little rusty, but let me get this straight: Billick going from OC to HC and his offense failing for nine years is ok? Callahan going from OC to HC and having a good offense those years is not ok? I just can't fathom how you could want someone whose offense in Baltimore was as inept as your spelling to come here and be our OC. It makes NO SENSE.
As I said you have YHO & I have mine. Put this one in your archives & retrieve it 2 years from now & see then what you think of BC. No difference then you defense of JV & Brick which as ever season goes by both players show how silly we were draft them. Who knows in another year or so they will finally be declared busts sorry to say especially Brick be picked 4th overall. When another OLman calls him semi decent then he is exposed for what he really is. Just an average Joe Blow player not good/not bad so if you think we got our value with that then for sure you really cannot evulate players. Even the special coaching this past TC did not help him become an upper class player. Also the crutch of the Kendall affair is just an alibi since you either have it or you do not
Well, IMO YHO comes either from your family being inbred or you being dropped on your head as a child because it's ****ed up logic to want to bring in someone whose offense failed for nearly an entire decade to help our offense instead of someone who proved on an NFL level, both as a OC & HC, to run an effective offense. But in your feeble mind, you have to shoot down anything positive for the Jets as that's all you have to live for. Pretty sad indeed.
So when someone points out your complete lack of logic or reason in this argument, you begin talking about Brick and Vilma. That is called dodging, and it is a poor debate tactic. In fact, it goes a long way towards indicating that you have no idea what you're talking about.
Found some interesting things about Callahan. This is from Wikipedia: During the 2002 and 2003 seasons, he was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders of the NFL. Callahan had spent four seasons as the Raiders offensive coordinator before being named the franchise's 13th head coach prior to the 2002 season. Callahan led the Raiders to the 2002 AFC Championship Game and a berth in Super Bowl XXXVII in his first season as a head coach, making him just the fourth rookie head coach in NFL history to do so. The Raiders suffered a lopsided defeat, losing 48-21 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coached by his former boss Jon Gruden. The Raiders finished with a 13-6 record in Callahan's first season. Callahan is the third Raiders head coach to win an AFC West title and lead his team into the conference championship game in his first full season. Only Art Shell (1990) and John Madden (1969) had accomplished this feat. Under Callahan's guidance, the Raiders led the NFL in passing for the first time in team history and led the league in total offense for just the second time in team history. During his tenure as not only head coach but also offensive coordinator for the Raiders, Callahan earned a reputation as one of the finest offensive minds in the NFL. The Raider offense led the league in rushing in 2000 and led the league in passing in 2002. In 2002, the Raiders became the first team to win games in the same season while rushing at least 60 times (against Kansas City in a 24-0 win) and passing at least 60 times (against Pittsburgh in a 30-17 win). The Raider offense also set many franchise records during this period, including fewest sacks allowed (28) in 2000, a mark that was broken the following year (27). Despite the success of his 2002 team, the 2003 Raiders had a losing record. After his team got off to a 2-5 start, many of his players, in particular Charles Woodson, publicly demonized the coach, even suggesting that Callahan was deliberately trying to sabotage the season. Apparently, his accusations of strife and mutiny within the clubhouse were corroborated by others, including veteran receiver Tim Brown. Callahan, his supporters claim, had recognized that the team was aging and needed younger talent. To get it, he would have to cut existing salaries, an assertion that did not sit well with many of the team's veterans. After a lackluster 4-12 season, Callahan was relieved of his coaching duties at Oakland with a record of 17-18 in two years. Here is the full page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Callahan_(football_coach) It seems like he overacheived a bit with a poor Nebraska team. Once Tom Osborne came on board his fate was doomed regardless of what he did. Big reasons why he was fired was 1) He was an outsider from the Nebraska family 2) He actually installed an offense where the QB had to throw the ball instead of run with it and the Alumni couldnt stand it. 3) First losing season in almost 40 years (although it was with a crap team) 4) Giving up way too many points. As long as he is coaching the O and the line, I think that this is a great hire.
at first i was a little un sure about the callahan signing because he has done some awful jobs as a head coach. but after really looking at the statistics, and the true facts, i was able to put together a much better evaluation once i actually had something to go by. callahan doesnt seem to carry much of an ego, unlike billick, and the guy really knows offense very well. anything he adds to meetings and gameplanning discussions is a bonus. i dont think the jets offense is really in a position right now to say that anyone could hurt us, because quite frankly our offense is not good at all and it can only get better. protection was a major problem for the jets this season as we all know, and callahan should be just what the doctor ordered.
championjets, im sure youre a professional NFL scout and for sure you must be working in the NFL in somebodys scouting department, so i cant understand why you would be posting on message boards, you could probably lose your job. but since you are, i will take this opportunity to disagree with you in saying that a true scout cannot label a player as a "Joe Blow", which im assuming is the new scouting jargon for a player drafted high that is not an all pro player after just 2 seasons. brick has not fully adjusted to the NFL game, and has not played like an all pro left tackle, lets not fool anyone. but he has certainly improved his game from 2006, and will only continue to get better. potentially a move to right tackle would better suit him because he has struggled stopping defense's best pass rushers. my guess is he will be starting on the jets offensive line for the next 5-10 years and makes at least 3 pro bowl appearances. as for vilma, i honestly dont think he needs to be defended. it is clear that in a 4-3 defense, he is one of the top 5 or 6 mike linebackers in the nfl
Champ, I think the reason most cant understand your logic here is that you have been a big backer of a guy up in New England now..the same guy who bombed with the Browns...left the Browns to go back what he does best...be a DC..then went on to be a great head coach again because Mo Lewis knocked out his number one qb. I mean its all a chess match..and luck. Im having a very very hard time seeing how you can knock his work In Oakland though. I mean Nebraska....he just wasnt the type of guy who can recruit...that has nothing to do with his work in Oakland. I dont get how you can knock his work there. What you are saying is that BB was a terrible hire to bring back to the Jets as a DC after he left the Browns because of his work with the Browns failed. Many many many MANY OC's and DC's have gone on to greener pastures and failed and then gone back to what they do best...and had great success again..this list is so long it would take pages to fill. I like your fire champ....but its the stubborness you show on a topic like this that makes some wonder if you just trying to constantly pour salt on the wound or trying to make a solid case built on facts. Surely you would agree that BB was a bad hire by the Jets after the Brown debacle no?
No sorry I see NO ability in BC whatsoever. I think like B/way-Kensil & others he is a bad hire because he will not have the respect of the players because he has a zero reputation. I certainly hope I am incorrect & will be happy to admit I was incorrect if BC does turn out to be a top notch coach
Bullshit...you've been wrong before and never owned up to it, and this will be no different. Once a coward, always a coward.
Well I think my track record is pretty good. Herm, Bradway, Brick, JV Clement just to name a few that go on my side of the ledger. Not also to mention that all last off season I was warning all of you that we heading straight down the crapper. To bad you did not listen to my advise because you would not have been as disappointed as you now are. BTW why not share with us your HO concerning why in the last 7 years we have made ZERO appearences in the SB whereas the NEPs have made 4 in those same 7 years
You say everyone on the team sucks, so when you're occassionally right, you pat yourself on the back like we're supposed to be impressed. Saying everyone sucks is a coward's way out because you can't answer simple questions. You just don't have the mental capacity to do so. About the only thing you've said is that you wanted Billick to come instead of Callahan to help our offense, when Billick's offenses in Baltimore have been laughable...just like you.
