I noted that Madden actually may have made the change during the season. I have Madden's first book, but I think it was in another book where I read about it. It also may have been covered on the 1976 Raiders America's Game film. I have that entire DVD set and I'm going to eventually watch that particular DVD.
I don't think having history of their side should have anything to do with it. Either your team is suited for a certain defense or your team is suited for a different defense regardless of how long you've been a head coach.

I agree. I don't have a problem with Mangini manning up to the fact that we stunk like hell last year. After all, everyone knows we did!

The big question now is, where do we go from here? You don't do that kind of commercial more than once, otherwise you're not only a loser, you're a fool. So, the big challenge for Mangini right now is, he's GOT TO turn this team around now (and I do mean NOW, starting with vigorous involvement in F/A).

Anything short of turning this team around and heading in a winning direction will maek him a complete laughing stock. He's on the hot seat BIG TIME and don't think he doesn't know it! Same thing with Tannenbaum... they're both in this together.

I'd give him a D, but it's not just about the 3-4,4-3 thing. It's based on everything that happened this season, coaching-wise. Next year is the rubber year- two out of three good or bad seasons. i think they'll be better, but if they're not--sayonara.

    This is a serious question?

Believe me, you and the two or three other "the sky is falling" guys are the only people who actually would use this incident to say Mangini didn't work hard enough.

The fact that this has any significance to you amazes me.

Wow. This is absolutely un-fucking-believable here.

And may I ask...in your infinite knowledge...who should we have signed? To what kind of contract?

You're right. Losing weight....getting on screen for a half second...ACTIVELY seeking endorsement deals....all signs he doesn't even CARE what happens to the Jets...he took this job for the money.

No, no it doesn't. If you'd like to twist it that way...and you already have....then go right ahead and enjoy your ride. Mangini's work ethic is the last thing I would question.

I'd give him a D, but it's not just about the 3-4,4-3 thing. The entire CS sucked under him this season, except for Westhoff. It's based on everything that happened this season, coaching-wise. Next year is the rubber year- two out of three good or bad seasons. i think they'll be better, but if they're not--sayonara.

Well we disagree there. History on their side is pretty big in my opinion. Coaches like Parcells or even BB had there beliefs and then fine tune them over the course of time. Its easier to make a philosophy adjustment after you have been coaching for awhile. Rookie coaches that have never been a head coach are going by what they have coached under someone else and then fine tune their system.

All the coaches above struggled pretty badly before they found what works and what doesnt in their systems and then had success to be able to make those changes.
