Trades: Vilma for a high/mid Second Rounder. Trade Pennington for whatever you can get. FA: Gross (alternatives: Starks, Stacy Andrews) should be clear Lilja (alternatives: Jake Scott, Bell, Stacy Andrews) should be clear Corey Williams (alternatives: Tommy Kelly, Paul Spicer) great size for a 34 DE and i belive he can be very good in that position, at worst, he?s good depth Berrian (alternatives: Clayton, Bryant Johnson, Andre Davis) berrian is clemens deep thread, everyone?s calling for Josh McGown (alternative: Culpepper) we shouldn?t handle the starting job to clemens without competion, after Chad is gone, bring in a vet to challenge clemens Eric Johnson (alternative: Ben Troupe) Kowalewski is due for a upgrade, here it is Trufant (alternatives: Randall Gay, Drayton Florence) i know it?s not likely, but that?s why i offer alternatives to every move, would be a great #2 corner T.J. Duckett (alternative: Musa Smith) #3 RB, and can also be used in other ways Draft: 1. Gholston please god, let this guy be our Merriman/Ware 2a. Sweed (alternatives: Mario Urrutia oder Adarius Bowman) big target, should help in the redzone. i know i already signed Berrian, but with the injuries to coles and Cotch last year, we should add another one. and having 4 good WRs is not prohibited 2b. Thomas DeCoud (alternative: Josh Barrett) we don?t have a second Safety right now, i?d feel alot better, to know, that Elam is a backup. 3. Flacco (alternative: Josh Johnson) here?s our Plan B if Clemens keeps on sucking goatballs 4. Dre Moore (aleternative: Shirly) D-Line depth, with huge upside The big names in FA all either are not really fits for our D, or will get overpaid, or Franchised, that?s why i went in a different direction to spend the Cash: upgrade as many position, as you posibly can. This way, Training Camp will get very interresting, guys like Stuckey, Brad Smith, Mosely, Pouha, Barrett, Dyson, Poteat, Kowalewski, Pocsiak, Elam, Eric Coleman or Eric Smith really have to step it up to make the team. And we?re pretty much set before the Draft, that allows our FO to do whatever they like on Draftday, worked out well last year.
Im against trading Pennington for draft picks for the simple fact Pennington may be one of the best backup QB's in the NFL playing behind Kellen, Im also against trading Vilma for the simple fact if we draft Gholston in the 1st round... Gholston, Vilma, Harris, and Hobson/B.Thomas with Barton switching in and out with Vilma would be one hell of a group in terms of LB'ers go... Remember... You can never have 2 many LB's in the 3-4 Defense, just go ask BB and the Patriots. Now D.Harris is the #1 3-4 MLB in the 3-4 Defense... I think Vilma will benefit ALOT being the #2 IMLB in this 3-4 D...
Um... Being a #2 IMLB in a 3-4 Defense is not being a backup... He will still be on the field as much as Harris will be... He will just be playing on the opposite side as Harris... Now if Harris was the starter over Vilma in a (4-3) Defense... Well then I guess... It would be a different story
i?ve already discussed the trades in other threads, just take it as a fact, that i trade them in my mock
I'd like to keep Vilma around to start... That would be a hell of a free agent class. It would be questionable if all those guys fit under the cap. Here's how I'd clean it up: Either sign a WR or draft one, not both. Personally, there are some great free agent options this season as a slot/#2 guy. We'd be lucky to get this last guy you listed on both of the free agent lineman. Both would be good options. Throw Sean Locklear on that list. Williams or Kelly would be ideal fits as DEs IMO. Either one would be excellent. Flacco would be an excellent choice as would Gholston. I don't think that Dre Moore lasts that long. Decent job...
