Run DMC also had 200 plus yards and 3 TDs in a WIN against LSU, who was voted the "2nd best team in the country"...and 321 yards rushing against South Carolina. McFadden had a beastly receiving touchdown and a passing touchdown against Mississippi State: A pretty good indicator. I know Smith played great against Texas...but Smith was mediocre againt South Florida when he had 18 carries for 55 yards -- players are allowed to have mediocre games. McFadden had 2 against SEC teams, and Smith had 1 -- and it was against top level competion, not a C-USA team.
NC State ..ACC...217 yards Texas..Big 12...149 yards BTW...The USF gane was not on Smith...When you go down 43 points with 30 minutes left you do not run the ball
NC State doesn't count -- they are the second worst team in their conference behind Duke. If I can't use USF because the game was out of hand, you can't use McFadden vs. Mississippi State because the Razorbacks were up 24-7 at halftime so they were just trying to run down the clock...Felix Jones was injured early, so Peyton Hillis was Arkansas' change of pace back. When you're up by 3 scores the entire game, you don't run the best running back in the country into the ground, especially after his awesome backup was hurt early. You run out the clock and get the win.
Where are you now? As you would say, he played "REAL" defense and they kept him in check. 3.4 yards a carry is pretty dominant.
McFadden scored TWICE on Mississippi State, didn't he? I'm not a math major...but two scores is better than none. If you still think Kevin Smith is a better player/talent than McFadden, then you are one of the most biased fans ever.
Jerome Bettis once had 3 TDs in a game for 3 yards. McFadden did not RUSH for those TDS. Admit you are wrong. It's OK. I can not wait for D-Mac to go the way of Blair Thomas.
He still scored, and his team still won. McFadden won the Doak because he plays in top tier conference and he produces. Mississippi State has a dominant run defense. You can think I'm wrong all you want, but there's a reason why McFadden is going on the Top 5...and why Kevin Smith will be lucky to go in the Top 20 next season. It's not about the stats, it's about who gets it done. He can rack up all the rushing yards he wants, he's still not the better athlete or player.
Kevin Smith changed his mind and is declaring for the draft. I'm thinking mid 2nd round. Tim Salem, the OC, and Kyle Israel have more to do with kevin only getting 3.4 ypc then MSU's defense.
Good Luck to 24K I hope the Jets take a chance in RD 2 His jersey may be the first non-Jets one I buy
Well, it was nice a thought for next year...Philip Smith get ready. Still, I thought he should have gone pro after all those carries this year. I hope 24K does well in the pros, and I'm with ya GM - that might be a jersey worth grabbing regardless, but I'd love to see him in a Jets jersey!
What happened to "I'd like to stay another year so I can become a complete RB, I want to work on my pass-blocking and vision." I believed him to...I knew Vince Young wasn't staying, but Smith I thought would stay.
I believed him too, but alot of people were speculating he made the announcement so he wouldnt be a distraction for the liberty bowl. Money before loyalty I guess. I mean, he could also realize that next season's OLine is gonna be missing 3 of his biggest blockers. We got Philip Smith, and a damn good recruiting class so far... 4 solid RBs.. The only upside to him and possibly Joe Burnett [Mistake if he goes] leaving is two extra scholarships to offer.
Yeah, I was surprised to read Burnett was considering going, too. I'm still not as concerned about RB as QB, though. Greco can run, but he really didn't show much with his arm this season. You know anything about the guys behind him? Rivals.com is also showing 2 incoming QBs as of now.
Why are you bringing up past Heisman winners? Eric Crouch is probably the best option quarterback ever. As I said before, it's not about the stats, it's about who gets it done and wins the game. Eric Crouch was a winner and led his team to the championship. He won so many games that season by himself. I know that Miami destroyed Nebraska in the National Championship that year, but that was after Crouch took home the award. Rashaan Salaam, Charlie Ward, Danny Wuerffel, Ron Dayne, JASON WHITE, and Chris Weinke also won the Heisman. GREAT college players, that didn't pan out in the NFL. There's a lot of reasons why Kevin Smith is projected to go in the second round and Darren McFadden is projected to go in the Top 3.
OK, slick...Here are the Doak Walker award winners...I high lited the ones who have not panned out... 1990 Greg Lewis Washington 1991 Trevor Cobb Rice 1992 Garrison Hearst Georgia 1993 Byron "Bam" Morris Texas Tech 1994 Rashaan Salaam Colorado 1995 Eddie George Ohio State 1996 Byron Hanspard Texas Tech 1997 Ricky Williams Texas 1998 Ricky Williams Texas 1999 Ron Dayne Wisconsin 2000 LaDainian Tomlinson TCU 2001 Luke Staley BYU 2002 Larry Johnson Penn State 2003 Chris Perry Michigan 2004 Cedric Benson Texas 2005 Reggie Bush USC 2006 Darren McFadden Arkansas 2007 Darren McFadden Arkansas
I don't care if they didn't pan out in the NFL...they all dominated at the college level, in REAL conferences. McFadden won the award TWO fucking times. He must be a pretty dominant player, right? Why don't you get that? You are biased. I'm not going to argue with you anymore. Darren McFadden is the better running back and the better talent -- enough said.
Better prospect..yes..better talent..no... btw, 5 of the 17 listed played in mid majors...1 is the best player in the NFL..
