Jamaal Charles, James Davis, Rashard Mendenhall, Ray Rice, Kevin Smith, Jonathan Stewart are the names already in, and the biggest one is probably just a matter of a day or two away from making it official.

I just think it's amazing that so many guys at one position decided to all declare, and this is even with some guys likely going back that would have been selected somewhere on the now condensed day one, like DMC's backup Felix Jones and Steve Slaton. Not that what they're doing isn't appreciated though, because going hand in hand with the strength of the UC class is the incredible weakness of the seniors. If no juniors were in this class, we'd be looking at guys like Mike Hart and Matt Forte as the top RBs in the class. Don't get me wrong, they're solid players, but in a regular class these are guys that should be no better than 3rd rounders.

Just looking at the seven guys that declared, I can't seriously imagine one of the seniors beating ANY of them out to be one of the first seven backs off the board, save an unbelievable effort at workouts (read, Chris Johnson's 40). Hell, 4 of these guys should go in the top 15 picks (DMC, Stewart, Mendenhall, Charles), and when they don't the value these backs will have as they start to slip is going to make some teams really like the way their draft looks when all is said and done. Cmon, Kevin Smith and Ray Rice may have been the two best runners in the nation last year, and they're almost a lock to go Round 2. I just can't wait to see how it turns out.

The depth at RB is amazing this year, too bad we don't need one cause some team's going to get a 1st-round caliber RB in like round 3.

I love the kid to death, but that's the one weakness in his game. He'll never be a burner.

Sorry man, I've seen almost every game this kid's played, many in person, and Ray Rice does not have home run speed. I really can't see him beating 4.5 at best in the 40, and if he does, I'd still severely question if he can match it on the field. There's really no other way to describe it.

He is undersized. I'm not sure he will be an effective long-term starter.

5'9 205 as a junior in college is big enough to be a long-term starter. If he can get up to 215-220, he can be very effective, especially in a RB-committee.

He could be similar to Earnest Graham. I just don't think Rice is fast, shifty, and strong enough to offset his lack of height to the point where he'd be get 250+ carries a year for 7 or so years.

This is a STRONG draft class for runningbacks... And D.McFadden is head and shoulders above them all... Damn I wish we had the 3rd or 4th overall pick.

Dont need one? Jones only has 1 or 2 years left in him. With the high potential there is for a good/great rb to be there in the 3rd/4th, I highly doubt we dont take rb.

Wow, completely disagree with that. DMC isnt THAT good. I really dont understand the hype with him. I would MUCH rather have a more complete/balanced back. Mendenhall or Stewart.

I think McFadden will be a star in the NFL, but would be wrong for the Jets in April. With the quantity and quality at the RB position in the 2008 draft and with Thomas Jones on the roster, the Jets would be moronic to take McFadden or any other RB at 6 overall. I'd be all about them drafting a RB in the 3rd or 4th rounds.
Stewart seems to be the best value and he'll probably go in the second half of the 1st round. In other words, Stewart's probably not going to the Jets.

Mark me down for hoping James Davis is selected by the Jets.

Eh...Stewart could give McFadden a run for his money. Personally, I like Stewart a little bit more.

To me, there really isn't much that Charles doesn't have. He's big, though he does have some room to fill out in the NFL, experienced, and most likely one of the five fastest players in this entire draft class. I think when he gets to the NFL he has a chance to become a pro bowl runner with his natural abilities.

Cakes, I'm with you on Davis.

I think the Jets can draft a great successor to Thomas Jones this year. TJ isn't getting any younger and value-wise, you can't get any better. In future years, a lot of these guys would be 1st rounders but you can probably grab one later.

    It should be interesting.

I'm hoping teams sleep on Charles like many of the prognosticators do and we get a 3rd round steal.

Shouldn?t we look for one of them in round 3, maybe 2? I know we got a lot of other needs, but T.Jones isn?t getting any younger, and RB will be a need in 2 years, maybe next year. With all that Junior RBs declaring, next year?s call is probably one of the weakest in a long time. If T.Jones shows signs of declining, we might be forced into a very bad pick next year.

    what do you guys thing?
