ACC second team? 59 tackles 9 for a loss and 3.5 sacks. Not blow away #'s and they expected him to do way better than his junior year against so-so competion.
Dude, you didn't know that DTs were supposed to get like 100 tackles for loss and at least 20 sacks every season? Balmer had a great year...that's why he his stock has gone up so much. If you "don't know him", then look him up. It doesn't take that much work. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but you have no clue what you're talking about...and there's a good reason for it. I'll help you out with what you "don't know". Jason Shirley is a headcase, drug abusing, out of shape, once promising defensive tackle. DeMario Pressley would probably have to play 3-4 for us, but he really isn't that could of a fit. He's slow and undersized. Dre Moore could maybe play nose tackle for the Jets, but he could also play end in the 3-4. He's a good player, who's stock should rise after the combine.
I can't really see him at nose, personally. It would be just as much as waste of talent as Dewayne Robertson at nose is. I would have high expectations for him at end, though.
Yeah me either...that why I said could. I can just see Moore's talent wasting away after being drafted by the Jets and being forced to play nose tackle. Moore has the ability to be very versatile lineman in a 3-4 defense.
Why would the Jets draft a 6-4 311 pound player and put him at NT? I'd hope Mangini knows the 3-4 better than this...and my guess is he probably does. Moore at NT is purely fan speculation. He can handle a double team, but Moore's pass rush ability + height/weight ratio really don't make him a full time NT.
That's basically what I said. I see Dre Moore as a 3-4 defensive end, but I could see us playing him at nose and wasting his talent there.
Looking up stats on the internet does not define knowing a player. Did you SEE them play? Do your research on Balmer and you'll find ten guys who agree with me. Glad you didn't want to sound like a jerk. What would you sound like if you were trying? BTW thanks for proving my point. As far as Balmer goes, I'll wait to watch him at the Senoir Bowl and more importantly the practices. Right now I have Pat Simms rated higher based on pure talent and better competion. Balmer is more of a Mangini guy(senior, not a trouble maker), but you never know he may do what Carriker did last year and get himself to the top of the list. All the info isn't in yet. I started in this thread liking Campbell, but that was before Simms got in the mix.
Hahaha...you're the one that said Balmer had a bad season by looking at his stats. Thanks for proving MY point. You have no clue what you're talking about.' I believe Balmer is rated in the top 5 or 10 of Mel Kiper's big board, for good reasons. I don't agree with a lot of Mel Kiper's shit, but his big boards are usually pretty accurate.
Let me restate my OPINION(some seem to have a reading comprehension problem). His senior year, which drove him up as you say, was overrated(my opinion, scouts agree.#'s are good, but not blow away) . The team had an BAD season. It is WAY too early to analyze bigboards and such. Half the info isn't in. I don't think he is a first round draft pick right now. We have the #6 overall. I'm not sure if he will be worth our second rounder yet. My original point was where is the guy with that pick that fits our system. My point still stands. My opinion has changed some, since Pat Simms entered the draft.
Honestly dont think Balmer had that bad a year, its just that he is such a standout on a mediocre team (at best). The rest of the ACC was able to key on him all game because he was surrounded by average players. Butch Davis will do well in that program -- my opinion is that he is a pretty good recruiter. It may have been a different story to see Balmer play w/a top 20 ranked team.
They used Mike DeVito at nose in certain games...our entire line is all a big rotation, so I could see Mangini trying to use Moore at nose in certain parts of the game, but he'd hopefully be a main-stay at end. Pouha could be decent nose for at least a season, but the Jets need to find a solid starter there. Red Bryant could be that guy.
But every 3-4 team does that...most of their lines are rotations. I really, really don't like Red Bryant at NT or really anything...not a fan right now. Maybe he changes my mind with a combine.
Exactly...that's why I think if Moore is drafted by the Jets that he will see some snaps at nose because of different rotations.
Hey. I could be wrong(I thought the Colts reached when they took Addai as high as they did). The senior bowl will tell alot about him. Most practices are one on one and so is the game. That's why I love the NFL network, and the cable companies are so full of garbage.
