    Step 1:

Police say Heisman runner-up McFadden handcuffed briefly at "rowdy scene" at bar
By PEGGY HARRIS, Associated Press Writer
    January 10, 2008

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden was handcuffed by police and then released without charges after being involved in a "pretty rowdy scene" at a piano bar early Thursday.

Arkansas' All-American running back and at least four others were at the downtown bar when a disturbance broke out shortly after midnight, police Lt. Terry Hastings said. A bouncer was hit in the face as he was trying to get the group to leave, Hastings said. A police report did not specify who hit the bouncer.

"There was a whole bunch of people there," Hastings said. "They were inside and it spilled out into the street."

Outside, McFadden was handcuffed by a police officer "because he was agitated and was provoking aggressive behavior inciting the incident," according to the police report.

"We handcuffed him for a few minutes because he was rowdy," Hastings said.

McFadden, who was the only person handcuffed, was released after he calmed down. Hastings said it was routine procedure to handcuff a person to gain control of a situation.

McFadden's mother, Mini Muhammad, said her son was trying to protect his younger brother, Daryl.

"He wasn't the one that was fighting. It was his little brother -- someone had jumped on him," Muhammad said. "He was agitated because his brother had a bloody nose."

"Darren was not fighting -- please make that be known," she added.

Hastings said bar employee Brant Hankins was advised that he could pursue charges against the person who hit him. The police report classified the incident as misdemeanor battery.

In the summer of 2006 in a fight outside another Little Rock club, McFadden severely injured his toe, but recovered in time to play in the Razorbacks' season opener.

McFadden, who also finished second in the 2006 Heisman voting, holds Arkansas' career and single-season rushing records. The junior has yet to decide whether he will forgo his senior year and enter the NFL draft.

McFadden was to be honored at the Little Rock Touchdown Club's annual banquet Thursday night.

Thug turd? I don't care how a player acts, as long as the guy shows up and works hard a practice, produces during games, and helps his team win. These guys play a game for a living, I could care less what they do in their extra time.

If Darren McFadden can put up OJ type numbers during his career he can murder whoever he wants when his career's over...I don't care. If McFadden has a Hall of Fame career, that means he did his job better than almost every other player that has played running back in the pros.

    Winning is all that matters.

Rae Carruth was a good player. What's wrong with murdering a pregnant woman.
    Michael Vick
    Pac Man Jones

You are a real class act MrE.

Maybe D Mac will analy rape you off the field..but who cares..he scored 2 TDs for your fantasy team.

A minor bar fight (a piano bar, no less) is hardly cause to label someone a "thug turd".

I don't care what those guys did. Pacman was just in the wrong place at the wrong time...too many times. Mike Vick didn't kill anyone, and it's stupid to compare McFadden to a murderer Carruth (who was coked up when he killed his girlfriend) only after McFadden gets in trouble at a club. You can't compare McFadden to OJ Simpson, Vick, Carruth, and Jones.

You can say whatever you want about me not being a class act -- If I'm a fan of a team and a player is considered a jerk or a trouble maker, I don't care, as long as he produces and helps win the game. These guys are modern day gladiators. They play a SPORT for a living in front of millions of people. A lot of them think they are untouchable. I don't care if a guy goes out and gets into a fight at a club, as long as he comes out on gameday and breaks a big run or lays a big hit.

Look how many Redskin fans, and even non-Skin fans were upset after the death of Sean Taylor, who was considered to be a trouble maker early in his career. He was arguably the best player on their team...and he was a jerk, yet everyone liked him.

He just has a grudge against Run DMC because he deserved and won the Doak over his boy Kevin Smith.

He was just trying to help his little brother, and he wasn't charged with anything, stop trying to make something out of nothing.

Pacman was charged with two felonies for his involvement in a shooting at a strip club.

McFadden was trying to help his brother who had gotten into a scuffle with a guy at a piano bar.

    Stop comparing them.

I don't want the Jets to draft anyone who frequents piano bars.
