Just saw this guy on nfldraftcountdown.com. He is 6-3, 326 and ranked pretty high actually. Ahtyba Rubin, I have never heard of him but from what I found he played defensive line in high school and junior college. Then he was moved to offensive line in 2005. Then in 2006 he went to Iowa State and moved back to DT. He definitely has the size, but he would be a project. If we can sign a young NT he would be useful for depth and for the future. Possible 5th or 6th round draft pick i guess. Does anyone know anything more about him.
Haynesworth = End. 3-4 NT is the position you want a short, stout guy. Haynesworth is stout, but with his height and athleticism he'd be a much better end. I think I've heard Rubin's name before...he was mentioned as a riser on JI once by a pretty knowledgeable poster...with that kind of size he's very, very intriguing.
signed somewhere and was cut after day 1 of rookie camp, now he is in a circus doing the largest backflip you have ever seen
He went undrafted and got picked up by someone (forget who), then cut after 15 minutes of practice when he was completely winded.
wasn?t he signed by the Saints? i recall a quote from their fitness coach, saying that he has never seen anyone more out of shape than this guy. wasn?t he named walter something?
Needing your nose tackle to be short isnt entirely true. WIlfork is 6-2 to Albert's 6-6,, but i like the height so that he may be able to get his hands up on the pass rush in the QBs face. Their weight is almost the same.
Thats the reason he'd make a better end. The NT is expected to be short and stout because his mass and ability to create leverage is so important. Remember, he's supposed to be able to stop runs up the middle. Haynesworth pass batting and pass rushing ability work much better at end.
Honestly, I think Haynesworth is talented enough to play both DE or NT. I've never seen someone knock back Mangold 3 yards like he did when we played them. He gets very good leverage and would probably be better at the position than Robertson, although his ideal place is probably DE.
He definitely could handle NT. But in a perfect world a 3-4 team has him at end and some 6'1-6'3 guy at NT.
Oh Walter Thomas.... http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=21214&highlight=walter+thomas+myspace Why did you need to edit your myspace?
Not necessarily. Ted Washington is 6-5. Shaun Rogers is 6-4, and could easily play the nose. More often than not, it's shorter, squatter guys that get cast as nose tackles, because they have trouble shedding blocks and typically aren't that athletic. Haynesworth's greatest strength is his inability to be moved and his natural strength. That's an asset you look for in a nose tackle. This is why despite his superior height, he'd be a better fit at the position than Dewayne Robertson, whose game is quickness and leverage. -X-
Washington is also like 350 pounds, and has pushed way higher at points in his career. Rogers is listed at 340 and could play anywhere on the 3-4 DL. Haynesworth is one of those guys who could play anywhere on the 3-4 DL, but I think his height and pass rush ability make him more valuable at end.
Why not Trade a Third Rounder to the niners for Issac Sopoaga the guys a beast 6'2 325 and holds a NFL Combine record of most reps in weight lifting even though im not shure exactly how many reps he did but i know it was alot. He to me seems like a great pick up and move D Rob to the End. No big NT in this Draft for me but you never know.
