This the list of potential draft picks at #6 in no order. I would not be thrilled with many of these guys, but I believe it will be one of these guys at #6 and can't see any other players they'd have on the radar at that spot. If I missed anybody please let me know. Matt Ryan QB Boston College Andre Woodson QB Kentucky Brian Brohm QB Louisville Darren McFadden RB Arkansas Jake Long OT Michigan Ryan Clady OT Boise St. Chris Long DE Virginia Calais Cambell DE Miami Sedrick Ellis DE/DT USC Glenn Dorsey DE/DT LSU James Laurinaitis ILB Ohio St. Quentin Groves OLB/DE Virginia Vernon Gholston OLB/DE Ohio St. Kenny Philips S Miami I think it's definately a long shot to select a QB at #6 (and a questionable move at least), but I don't think it's out of the question if the coaching staff truly does not believe in Clemens. We have Thomas Jones, but if McFadden is around at #6, he's certainly going to warrant consideration (Adrian Peterson/Chester Taylor?). Jake Long is clearly the top OL in the draft and would be a good choice. Gholston and Groves are both seemingly the type of pass-rushers this 3-4 defense needs. The defensive line is, of course, also an issue and Chirs Long could fit the 3-4 scheme. Laurinaitis also seems like a long shot, but again, not out of the picture. Dorsey might be an OK fit, but it doesn't look like he'd make it to #6. I doubt there's a WR, OG or NT that warrants this pick. I can't see anyone else on the radar here. So who will it be? Thoughts, comments?...
No way in hell that McFadden will fall to #6... He has #1 overall skill & even greater potential. Also... No way in hell the Raiders pass on McFadden if he is still on the board... Radiers just drafted a franchise QB in J.Russell with a Gun for an arm that can stretch the field with the best of em... Now its the raiders turn to draft that Franchise RB who can make big time plays any given sunday So sad that we won today... So sad
You never know... Maybe he has a bad combine... Now there's he's in some potentially big trouble because of his agent or something, but I can't recall the story. Crazier things have happened, even though it's unlikely. So sad we won? Ouch. Do you really think McFadden could tear it up behind THAT offensive line? So sad we won? That's pathetic thinking.
Right now this would be my very preliminary draft board 1. Darren McFadden 2. Chris Long 3. Vernon Gholston 4. Jake Long 5. Glenn Dorsey (lowered since I don't think he fits in a 3-4) 6. James Laurinitis I've seen in a lot of places that Quentin Groves' stock has fallen to the point that he might be had in the early second round. While I wouldn't want to gut the entire draft like last year, if Groves starts to fall, I think you have to look into trading up, especially if you have extra pick(s) floating around from a Pennington trade.
I think both longs will be gone by our pick so I don't think we have to worry about them. McFadden will be gone. Either someone will draft him or trade up for him in the top 5. I don't think there is any chance Dorsey will be around at 6. That leaves us with Laurinitis, Gholston and the offensive tackle from Boise St. If the Jets were smart they would just keep building up the defense and take either Laurinitis or Gholston.
By the time the draft rolls around, there's going to be at least one corner go top ten, maybe two. The top group is so squeezed together that it could go a lot of different ways. Cason, Jenkins 1, Jenkins 2, Talib, and Smith could all conceivably go that high, Justin King too if he enters and kills at workouts.
Here's my guy. Junior out of Miami. Calais Cambell. 6' 8" ,285. Nice kid, smart kid. Originally from Colorado, his football idol is Ray Lewis. He hasn't completely filled out yet, but has Mario Williams , Julius Peppers potential.Quit basketball because he knew he had to concetrate on football. Would be a perfect fit for our D. Why haven't you heard of him? He was double teamed most of the season. Some stats(remember this is a DE that was doubled. Alot) 50 tackles 12.5 tackles for a loss 2 forced fumbles 1 Int.
It's hard to find a perfect fit for our D, but this kid plays the run well too. The year we took D'Brick, I wanted Mario Williams. Last year I targeted Carriker( Who will be another monster). This year its Cambell. DT/DE on the right side has been a black hole for us. Ellis has been steady. DRob always takes on 2 blockers and Bryan Thomas disappeared this year. We need someone who can free up rushers on that side of the ball and maybe get a pass rush without blitzing.
Using all of the players you provided, my draft board would look like... 1. Vernon Gholston OLB/DE Ohio St. 2. Darren McFadden RB Arkansas 3. James Laurinaitis ILB Ohio St. 4. Calais Cambell DE Miami 5. Jake Long OT Michigan 6. Chris Long DE Virginia -- I would be absolutely fine with any of these picks, from here on though, it would get dissapointing 7. Kenny Philips S Miami 8. Brian Brohm QB Louisville 9. Quentin Groves OLB/DE Virginia 10. Glenn Dorsey DE/DT LSU 11. Andre Woodson QB Kentucky 12. Ryan Clady OT Boise St. 13. Matt Ryan QB Boston College 14. Sedrick Ellis DE/DT USC
I don't know all the players but pending how FA goes: Priority 1. O-line(unless top 2 are gone) 2/3. LB & DE (whichever top one is left) later rounds 4. NT/DT - Unless Pouha is a PBer in the making 5. WR(only if Coles is traded if not this isn't an issue) 6. QB(if they trade Chad and can't sign an FA back-up) 7. CB (if Dyson and Barrett are given the boot)
Campbell would be a bad fit for our defense. He's very much a speed rush type of guy, not suited for the grueling battles that a 3-4 DE would face at the next level. I'm not saying he's soft, but he showed he can have his way some OTs if left alone because of his size and speed, not so much when the focus is on him. In our D, he'd need to take up blockers, and while he might require some attention because of his potential, he'd be totally limited without adding a ton of weight/strength to his frame. He's really a 4-3 DE, that's it, too big to even step back to LB.
He's 6'8 280...I'm pretty sure he can play in the 3-4. You just called a guy that runs around a 4.9 a "speed rush" type and you questioned my draft knowledge earlier? Sure, he needs to add strength, but every rookie entering the NFL needs to add strength. He's a lot like Mario Williams. Campbell has the ability and size to fit into any scheme. When I read YOUR posts, intelligence is "rarely the first thing" that comes to mind.
You see, what's funny is that you appear to be basing your opinion on players based on their height and weight, rather than watching them play. Which is hi-larious, and I appreciate the humor that you are trying to infuse into the thread. At any rate, had you ever seen Campbell play, you'd know exactly what I'm talking about. 6-8 may be very tall, but guess what Sally, 280 pounds on that frame isn't exactly stout. Not to mention, he also is at a disadvantage when it comes to one of the most (if not THE most) important thing when it comes to 3-4 linemen, leverage. So now we're talking about a guy who doesn't have the bulk, strength, or leverage to play the spot. What does Campbell have? Tremendous closing speed, pass rush moves, and overall explosiveness getting into the backfield. He doesn't rack up TFL and sacks the way he has the past 2 years standing up linemen, he gets into the backfield and makes plays. This year when teams focused blockers on him, he faded, because he still has a ways to go in terms of developing the strength to beat schemes like that. He's a developmental guy with a ton of potential, not the flat out studs that guys like Williams and Peppers were coming out. And honestly, if you want to call me out on any player, fine, but a Hurricane? Really?
I really am calling you out. I guess you think Calais Campbell can't gain weight and lift weight to become stronger? Calais Campbell was such a scary player in the past that opposing offenses had to gameplan around him. I think had over 20 tackles for loss last season? With him being double teamed, other players were given opportunities to make plays and the Jets need that. Just because he isn't making the play EVERYTIME, doesn't mean he's not doing his job. Sure, Campbell should try to get his weight into the 300s to be as effective as possible, but even at 280, he could be effective on any defenses d-line. His wingspan alone makes him effective with the right coaching at the next level. Calais also reminds me of Richard Seymour, who was 6'6 295 entering the draft. The main knock on Seymour before the draft was: He plays to upright and he has trouble disengaging from multiple blockers. Sound Familiar? If Calais gets the right coaching, he can fit into the 3-4 and be dominant, just like Seymour is for the Pats. I wouldn't want to see the Jets draft Campbell over Vernon Gholston...or in the Top 10, but I would like the pick if somehow NY traded down into the 20s and picked him or if he pulls Quinton Moses and slides, we might be able to get a steal in round 2.
Just because he doesnt let the whole world know that he is "Attending University of South Carolina for his MBA degree:"... Does not mean that he lacks intelligence.
Dude, you don't even know what I'm talking about...so just go watch some more pointless motocross stunt jumps. and...I doubt the "whole world" visits this site. If the world's population was entirely built of Jets fans, the world would have already ended.
