Looked nasty tonight. He was eating up two guys and still getting a pass rush. When he was out, the Maryland D looked significantly worse. This guy is going to rise come combine time. He's arguably the most physically gifted DT in this entire draft. He'd look great as a 3-4 DE...
Maryland's defense got destroyed by Oregon St's rush offense. Bernard had 178 yards and James Rodgers had 100something yards off of reverses. We need help against the run also...it's great if Moore can get a pass rush, but the Terps got run over tonight.
Still I kept an eye on him and they didn't run up the middle when he was in. This guy might be the Carriker of the '08 draft.
A lot of those yards were on the continual reverses. As a matter of fact, most of the run yards were outside the tackles and most of the runs inside the tackles were not inside the guards.True, though, that he didn't get penetration against the run. He only held his ground. That's a 3-4 End right there.
We are going to need to trade down or trade Vilma to get an extra 2nd round pick to get either Frank Okam, Dre Moore or Red Bryant. I was hoping to use a minimum 2nd round pick on a WR. If we can somehow manage to get an additional pick in the 2nd round to acquire one of these DTs, I would be very very happy.
The formula for success in the NFL is out ---- D-linemen (whether 3-4 or 4-3) have to be 300lbs plus in order to stop the run. If you look back at years past, what frequently happens is that once a particular position is selected, all of a sudden the other teams scramble for the remaining players at that same position before the well runs dry. So once the first DT after Dorsey goes, I think you'll see the other DTs go pretty fast.
Marcus Monk should be available later. People will be worried about his knee but he should recover well. Watch him New Year's Day in the Cotton Bowl. Coles-Cotchery-Monk-Stuckey-Smith would be a good group of receivers for next year. Okam will probably fall in the mid 2nd and Bryant in the 3rd unless someone really liked him. True.
