01:29PM - Jets Bring In Former First Round Cornerback
Saturday, December 29th, 2007 by Gary Grund

The Jets auditioned well-traveled CB Ahmad Carroll, a former first-round pick of the Packers

Batman Carroll never dies. The Jets could be looking at the former first-round draft pick as an offseason addition. He?d likely get a reserve/futures deal.

The Jets brought in former Packers first-round draft pick, cornerback Ahmad Carroll. If the Jets seem interested, he will likely receive a reserve/futures deal.

Carroll, 24, was drafted 25th overall in the 2004 draft by the Packers and played three seasons with them. In 34 games, Carroll made 95 tackles, had 3 interceptions, 3 sacks and 21 passes defended. A big part to his problem in the NFL was the fact that he was averaging just under one penalty per game in his career. 26 of his penalties were for coverage violations such as pass interference, illegal contact, and holding.

He was released by the Packers not long after being burnt for two touchdowns by Philadelphia wide receiver Greg Lewis. As a restricted free agent, Carroll signed on with the Jaguars in October of 2006. Seven months later, Carroll was arrested around 3 a.m. on drug and gun charges. Two days later, he was waived by the Jaguars.

If Mangini can teach this kid some patience, and he cuts down his over-aggressiveness without affecting his performance, it would be a very good addition.

Jets passed on Owens, Moss & Tank because of their problems and the teams that did sign him made out great, I'd take this guy and Pacman Jones if they help the team win.

I have no problem with this - low risk high reward type deal. Alot of people here mention how CB's can be coached up. Hopefully Revis continues on the track he is on and Miller and Carroll can be taught some technique to match their physical ability.

Well maybe he will be our key off-season aquisition just like Wadsworth and Haynes, remember leave no stone untouched even if it is broken, old or really dirty

He is absolutely terrible. When he isn't getting beat, he is picking up penalties.

I'm just glad to seet that the Jets' are thru with the choir-boy image thing.
They may just get some players now.

-As for Carroll...He's from Univ. ofArkansas I believe & the CB's from there are good athletes with very poor technique....aka Falcons #1 draft pick Chris Houston. A pass interference penalty waiting to happen. These guys cover with there backs to the QB (man-to man) defense. There better suited for zone coverage.

No, it's yet another sign Mangini doesn't know anything. Remember, he banked on Wadsworth to be a top pass rusher.

The CB that the Jets should be focusing on in the offseason is
Nnamdi Asomugha of the Radiers. And not just because he has the best name in the game. He was probably the best cover corner in the league this year, and no one has heard of him. He will most likely opt out of his contract after the year is over (he has a player option for the 08 season). His stats are impressive (8 picks) but what is even more impressive is that he was able to accumulate them with teams avoiding throwing at him for much of the season. He would be a GREAT signing IMO.

He's "Batman" -- Ahmad Carroll has an insane vertical leap and great speed, he just couldn't pick up the pro game.

Mangini might be able to turn him into a solid player -- he'll be better than Poteat, Barrett, and Coleman.

He was a huge bust and I'd doubt he'll ever be anything more than a nickel back
