You mean the guy who stole out of here in the middle of the night and left us with an "abyzmal" team *no pun intended* and no cap room?

Herm was never the problem while he was here, but he also was rarely the solution.

I think he'll go down as one of the better Jet's coaches, although that's not saying a lot. I like him a lot more than I liked Spanky Walton for example.

average to slightly above average coach...horrible person...I just can't forgive lying, even though it was for the best.

No the guy who left a playoff caliber roster(we had 30+ herm/Bradway guys a year ago and only 15-16 remain) and a few simple moves to be made to get a ton of cap room which we have. We have been through the herm debates before but the man deserves a nice ovation from the 20,000 Jet fans that will be there. He did guide us to 3 postseasons in 5 years and never did we miss the postseason when we had good health unlike this season.

If I recall, our O-Line was in shambles, he ran Martin until he was bone on bone, we had no RB's, no secondary, and average guys on the D line making 12 million dollars a year.

Luckily for him he had his next job locked up by week 6.

Our OL was old, but fine (outside of the LT position) Mangini's the one who ran Kendall out of town, released our then RT Fabini, who was capable of playing there, or as a G, and never signed a legitimate RT or LG and decided Clement and Clarke were good enough to start...

Our RB situation did stink, but RB is probably the easiest position in the NFL to fill, assuming your OL is decent...

Our secondary had Kerry Rhodes, coming off a 100 tackle season in which he showed flashes of potential, Donnie Abraham (who is pretty much the same player as Andre Dyson, except better suited for Herm's scheme), Ty Law (albeit old, but still able to be a decent starter until a younger CB was ready to replace him), and the very promising Erik Coleman and Justin Miller....

And our average guys on the DL were playing well enough within the scheme for our D to be 4th in the league in points allowed, even in the terrible 2005 season...

I'm not saying Herm did a great job, but those issues were not as big as you made them out to be until Mangini came in and tried to mold the team in his image

The only SERIOUS issue I could think of is the AGE of a lot of the players Herm left for Mangini... But these guys weren't ineffective... They were NEARING the end, but they didn't need to be run out of town before a legitimate replacement was found...

I love guys like Herm! The fact that he got another job in the same field for more money is proof that America is still the land of unlimited opportunity.

Oh look it's Herm Edwards, the coach of a team thats as crappy as ours is. Lets see if our guy can out coach him in a game thats completely meaningless other then it's impact on the draft order.

I hated the way he left. He always says how honest he is, but IMO the people who say how honest they are wind up being the biggest weasels.

No reacton whatsoever. This is a business first and foremost. Not only for the owners, but for everyone involved directly (players and coaches). They don't owe anyone any explanations or loyalty. They're primary responsibility is to themselves, not to the organization and visa versa.

Herm did what he thought he needed to do. Happens everyday in the real world. He basically quit his job for a new one. Again, no hard feelings Herm. Just don't be surprised if a few folks spit on your head coming out of the tunnel on Sunday..

Most of us wanted him gone, so why should we be angry that he misled the media to help make it happen? I don't put much stock in comments made to sportswriters anyway. It's called "coachspeak." Did we really expect him to say, "I'm outta here and can't wait to be rid of you?" His popularity was so dismal that Woody would've been forced to fire him anyway. I'm thinking he was just about to. This way we got something back. We should be grateful for the way he left.

I don't care if Herm left in the most graceful way possible or (as some of you obviously think) in a haze of lies and assholery.

    I'm just glad he's gone.

I don't care how much success he has or how many wins he has. The fact is and always will be that the man simply can not coach in the NFL. I have no ill-will towards him but it's just a matter of time before the rest of the world realizes what we've known all along - Herm is a dumbass.
