"Rookie G Robert Turner, who was just signed off the practice squad, alternated with Montgomery." - nj ledger why would this rookie, Turner, see playing time and Bender not at all? Is he that bad? Are they only grooming him for the RT? I hope it is the latter. He was a noticeably large man in training camp, especially for a rookie. I have high hopes for him.
I was wondering the same thing , his Bio is very good and his size and speed look as though he should make the transition.
Right, but he hasn't had playtime this season. Considerably. Do you think it might be because they're training him for Right Tackle and he simply hasn't proven to surpass the skill of Clement yet? I'm leaning towards/hoping for this, since he was a tackle on the left during college. Even though Bender is a big mofo, I'd rather have some pedigreed guards out of college playing the positions for us.
We rotated another scrub with Clement at RT yesterday... Mangini ROUTINELY dectivates players when he benches them, making them unavailable come gameday... It is one of many things he does that just doesn't make sense... When you have a struggling OL, and a fragile QB behind it against a good passrushing team whose playoff lives are on the line, what the hell are you thinking by: A) Rotating guys with no experience this season at LG and RT and B) Deactivating the only two guys with any significant game experience at LG, making them unavailable in the event that your replacement sucks even worse than the original guys It was just plain stupid... Mangini treated the OL like the 4th preseason game vs the Eagles... Except Kyle VandenBosch is not a scrub DE, and Albert Haynesworth is a Pro Bowl DT.... And don't get me started on the ridiculous pass-blocking schemes in which a backup TE was assigned to block Vanden Bosch
Honestly....I believe that Mangini was giving them a chance to get some game action...as a reward for there hard work all season in practice. Its' just that...nothing more or less than that. He gave them a moment to shine & get a 1st taste of NFL action. Bender, he's a work in progress & may be improved for next seaso. Time will tell. Maybe in 2 years Bender will be ready for full-time duty in the NFL.
This is one thing I do not get. From what I have read on other sites is that there is a faction amongst the Jets CS that thinks he should be in starting over Clement. I do not know if this is fact as I can not substantiate it. However, if true it purports to the stubborness of Mangini. Again it is just amongst a few of the rumors you hear. I can not say it is true or not. I am not an insider but I think the person that stated it knows some that are. They state that Bender has not been horrible, has practiced well and that they do not know why he is playing. Take it for what it is worth.
Maybe we have terrible talent on the OL and he's letting everyone know that: hey these aren't going to be around next year, so if you want to get some playing time to show me you aren't as horrible as the losers i deactivated sign up here.
When this coaching staff doesn't let a player on the field, it's because the can't get it together in practice... and since our O-line has been worse than most years, I have to assume that either Bender sucks, or is not being coached up well enough to perform. Either way, if there's a guy on the roster that's worse than what we've seen on he field, I'd prefer he stays inactive.
You know someone that thinks they knows some insiders that heard rumors...It's a little thin, especially because its about Bender.
I don't know any good ones other than the great Alex Gibbs, but I really feel the CS is not coaching up players. D'Brick should be better, Brad Smith should be better, Clemens should be further along as far as reads. This is not college where Florida, USC, Texas, have so much better talent than their opponents. The overall talent gap in the NFL is not that great and this is why CS have a bigger impact in the NFL. The Pats won there 3 superbowls with talent not as good as others. Sure Brady is as good as it gets, but the CS does a good job at putting the players in the best possible position to be successful.
Exactly what I said. I did not try and hide anything. I think the guy that said it is an insider on the Jets. I do not spend much time at that site so I do not know 100%. I do not hate Mangini but figured it was something people should know. Totally take what I posted for what it is worth. If you do not believe it that is cool. Edit: I do not know anyone that is an insider with the Jets.
