Key drops by Brad Smith. two passes, key passes in his hands were dropped that would have kept drives alive. Dude needs major skill improvement and coaching on hand placement when catching.

It's pretty widely accepted that he's a bad receiver at this point so I don't think anyone was surprised to see him dropping passes. He is a strong special teams contributer, only in his 2nd season ever as a receiver and he has shown flashes. I tend to think catching a football is a natural ability and not a learned one, but a lot of people disagree. Hopefully another season as a receiver will make him a lot better because what we're seeing this season isn't gonna cut it in the NFL.

Once the ball is in his hands, he's a major threat. He doesn't extend his hands to catch the ball and tends to try and catch using his body, which is a major mistake that can be fixed, unlike bobbling the ball once it is in your hands, something that McCareins does. As previously mentioned, Brad Smith never had to catch the ball prior to coming here, ever. He needs time. He will never be a #1 or #2 receiver and no one should expect him to be. He can, however, develop into a good #3 or a great #4. He's more than you could ever ask out of a tertiary target . . . So long as he gets possession of the ball.

he is nothing more than a 4 or a 5 wide out no deep threat whatso ever and those trick option running plays work 1 time a year in the nfl goodbye to him i woul rather see wallace wright get the reps

I for one came real with the any play to Brad Smith is a wasted play shtick. He’s like Anthony Becht but he can’t catch as good or block.

reps on the jugs machine and he'll be a decent slot receiver and trick play guy-- Randel El with not as good hands, i can deal with that-- as long as we have a tandem in Coles and Cotch or one like it if Coles leaves next year.

if he practices he'll improve--- if he doesn't improve than yes he is what he is now, a failed experiment.

The fact that Brad Smith sucks has not been ignored on this board.

But who cares? He's not someone who we all expected to come out and play well.

Did he exceed expectations? Absolutely not. Did he meet them? Probably not. As long he contributes on special teams, he's worth keeping around but, otherwise, I'd be happier to see him not involved on the offense.

several people on this board have echoed that, jonny. HERE I'LL SAY IT AGAIN--BRAD SMITH STINKS AS A WR--The sooner the jets realize that he and McCarens stink at WR the better.

man, you guys are so harsh, i bet half of you havent played football in your life for a team or anything, you can get better at anything in football, the only thing that makes a difference is athletic ability, you obviously cant teach that, brad smith has been playin reciever for two years with mainly getting reps this year in game speed....they obviously play him a lot to build him into a #3....brad smith is one of the most athletic players on this team, hes still raw, give him time...when the ball is in his hands...he is a major threat, you ever see him in college, he was unbelieveable...yea hes dropped many pass thiis year....this is his SECOND year, Terrell Owens has played TE/WR his whole life and he still drops mad passes....shit, were 3-12, the season stinks...their are a lot worse things on this team then brad and on the trick play with him at QB, yea its obvious but he did it numerous times against new england and only once was it a negative yard play...he had some huge runs with it, one incomplete pass and one holding penalty....he is a very patient runner and has great vision...he will be fine, give him one to two more years

Why is it that when someone gets an idea into their head about something, they automatically assume that since there isn't 8 threads about it on the first page that the thought has never occurred to anyone on the board? I have personally participated in a number of conversations on the subject of Brad Smith's repeated drops and the arguments were going on for a while before I ever got in on it.

While I hate the way he loses concentration at a repeated rate, his hands are actually getting softer. Not at a noticable rate, but when you actually watch him early on this season he's catching with his entire hands; later on and going into the past few games his hands have gotten a lot softer, more with the fingertips. He made a couple of amazing snatches in the Browns game that were largely ignored by the announcers.

I don't ever think he'll be a starter, but if you just watch some of the amazing athletic plays he makes, if they can teach him well enough to convert some of that into occasional clutch plays for us, he would be a fantastic and not-as-expensive depth player for us. Although if he gets any good, some team may pay to steal him away on potential alone as RFA (if he'd be eligible, not sure about that part) and we'd get a pick for him.

I agree he's great on special teams, but on kick-off returns he needs to quit fighting Leon for the ball.

It pisses me off to watch him get his 10 yard return instead of letting Leon get it with a possability of taking it to the house.

I couldn't say it any better. With Smith's athleticism, versatility and cost, he's a fine option as a #4 receiver. Unfortunately injuries (Coles) and incompetence (McCareins) have thrust Smith into a position that he is (at least right now) incapable of handling.

Come on - that's only an excuse when Clemens is the QB. Those drops had to be Pennington's fault.

I've never played football in my life except for backyard games but I can say that Brad Smith should not be playing on offense as much as I want. It's my right as a spoiled, ungrateful fan.

Brad Smith should not be playing on offense.
