FA Pickps: * Stacey Andrews LG * Randall Gay CB * Bernard Berrian WR * Ethan Kelley NT DRAFT: Trade: Jonathan Vilma to the Lions for their 2008 2nd round pick. 1. Chris Long DE 2. Barry Richardson RT 2b. Lawerance Jackson DE/OLB 3. Dre Moore DT *Please Comment*
I lined up behind Barry Richardson in high school for two years. The guy's an absolute beast and he's lost weight since he's been at Clemson. He was used as a goal line back in those situations: Imagine a 6-7 330 pound giant running at you with a full head of steam. No one stopped him inside the five. Big Barry is a workout warrior, and he'll give someone a solid player and a hard worker. He's been beat a lot this season, but he would be a solid pick in Round 2. He's a top 5 tackle in this draft, and he's an All-ACC offensive lineman.
Dre Moore is projected to go in the top half of the second round, I don't see him falling to the 3rd. Barry Richardson is a reach there, you could probably get Gosder Cherilus, or Chris Williams there, who are much better prospects. I don't know much about Lawrence Jackson, but he has the size to play OLB, if he runs a decent time at the combine then I'm happy with the pick. I like the free agent signings.
Richardson is better than Cherilus AT tackle, but if we're looking for guard, which we should be, Cherlius should be the pick.
anyone else wondering why Chicago is allowing its only receiving option to leave this offseason? Don't see it happening. Now since we "signed" Andrews in this offseason, and we don't likely end up with Berrian because he is going to be in Chicago next year. I think we drop Jackson from this scenario, Move Richardson back to the 2nd second round pick and then take Limas Sweed from Texas with our original 2nd rounder. Good chance he will be there because he missed this past season with a wrist injury, and he is that 6-4 reciever with speed that we need. Many say if he hadn't been injured he would be the top reciever in the class and possibly could have had Calvin Johnson type hype with a great year. So to snag a stellar reciever in the top of round two is a great play. Just my two cents, I mean maybe Berrian escapes Chicago, but he isn't that Tall guy super threat that everyone wants, Sweed could be that guy however.
Berrian is a super DEEP threat, but you're right about him not being tall. Why not bring in Berrian and draft Limas Sweed, especially if he slips into round 2? Coles will be done soon. The hits are already catching up with him. Calvin Johnson is a once in a decade player, Sweed is no where near as talented as CJ, but Sweed is a big time possession receiver, something we haven't had since Keyshawn.
1. I'd rather go Long at DE unless for some insane reason Mangini decides to trash the 3-4 for a 4-3. 2. Not a Richardson fan. 3. Jackson is strictly a 4-3 DE too. I don't think he's nearly fluid enough for the DE/OLB position. 4. Moore is going in the early second at the worst right now. His combine might get him into the late first. The Cardinals, 49ers, and Browns are all going to be looking for 3-4 DEs this offseason. He and Balmer are going to fly up draft boards.
You just proved my point, it's not that Berrian wouldn't be a great addition, it's that he is the ONLY decent recieving optioin in Chicago, meaning they would be insane for letting their only offensive weapon walk.... And like I said, he could have had CJ hype had he played this season and have a phenomenal year at that. Now obviously he didn't even play this season and some mocks still have him being the first reciever taken, and like you said, he's a guy we haven't had since Keyshawn's days we should draft him and let him develop in the slot for the first two/three years and when Coles hangs em up he's ready for a breakout year. nothing wrong with that is there?
They have Greg Olsen, Muhsin Muhammed (who's getting old), and Mark Bradley was a 2nd rounder a few seasons ago. They have other options in Chicago, they just need to find a QB. I could see them letting Berrian go. Limas Sweed would never have Calvin Johnson hype, because Sweed isn't going to run a 4.3 40 at the combine. Sweed isn't fast like CJ. I wouldn't mind Sweed coming to New York, but he's got nothing on Calvin Johnson.
Richardson is slow as molasses. I'd rather have Michael Oher or Chris Williams -- they should be available in the beginning of round 2. Lawrence Jackson is another slowpoke. Vernon Groves might be there & even Tommy Blake if you want to get OLB. But in your version of Free Agency, I feel we have enough $$ to make a play at Terrell Suggs.
Are we talking the same Richardson? Barry Richardson of Clemson? I've seen more than a couple of OT rankings/mock draft websites that put him at a 5.40 - 5.48 40 time range. Whats the deal?
Micheal Oher might end up in the top 10 if he comes out and destroys the combine as many hope/expect him to. I think he's the drafts best pure LT in this draft if he enters. I like him much better than Long at LT, and he's more physically dominating than Clady. Chris Williams would be beautiful in the second, but I hope we go RT in FA (Andrews) and we draft Moore or Balmer. This DL could use the youth and size and both of those guys are very good 3-4 DE, I think/hope. I don't want Barry Richardson at all, and no chance I buy he runs a 4.9.
