Here's a great question; Parcell's offers us to swap 1st round pick's if we give him Pennington? Do we do it? Does it make any sense? We lose Chad and we acquire the #1 pick in the draft. Miami still makes out pretty well because they would get somewhere between #3 and #6 (probably closer to #3). This is interesting. It would solve Miami's short term QB needs while not hurting them very badly in terms of draft picks. I really don't think this reeks of Madden either.

if we have the 3rd pick...that would make chad equal to the 21st overall pick
if we have the 6th pick....it would make chad worth the 8th overall pick
we are looking at a 3rd round pick max...if we are lucky
the dolphins cant justify trading for a qb again this offseason...more than likely they will sign a veteran free agent to compete with beck and lemon

Miami needs to rebuild, so bringing in Chad's contract would not allow them the flexibility to do that. Also, Chad needs weapons around him and a good OL in order to be effective, and Miami has none of those qualities. Parcells isn't dumb enough to go that route. He signed a 4-year deal, which means he'll afford another 2 years of mediocracy before bringing Miami out of the cesspool they're in.

    I see your point.

OK, now it is Chad and Vilma to the Phins.................or
Chad and Coles to the Phins

for the #1 pick in the draft. Does that make any sense in terms of need and equality value?

I think the only way thats a good trade is if it gives us greater leverage w/other teams in trading out of #1 overall. But then again, thats what Miami should have done to begin with.

I think my answer is no -- we dont do it. I'll settle for a minimum 4th round pick for Penny - but I really want a 3rd.

No to all of those options.

    Pennington in a Dolphins uniform=SICKENING.

Coles in a Dolphins uniform= SICKENING.

Vilma in a Dolphins uniform=Well, you get the idea.

While I know it would disturb some people. Look at it objectively in terms of whether it wakes sense for both sides and is reasonable value.

An intruiging scenario, hornet. I still think Chad will end up in Minnesota, or possibly Kansas City. Whatever we get for him is gravy.

Nothing. He is to smart to trade for a QB that is finished. Only Herm is that stupid. I hope we lose, cover and Chad sucks the big one so there is no chance that Chad is on this team. Great professsioal and easy guy to root for but its over in a big way.

Chad isn't finished....maybe here (JETS)....but honestly have you seen some of the QB play on other teams? Say what you want but Chad is smart, accurate and can manage a game. Keep him up right and he'll win games period. All this Chad bashing is ridiculous and he deserves more from JETS fans. He's a gamer...

    no......

in this draft the difference between #1 and say #4 is several million dollars of guaranteed money......

alot higher than the actual talent difference in those spots.....

the jets would be much better off staying put or sliding down and NOT moving up in any round.

There is no way that Parcells would trade a #1 pick for a 30 year old quarterback with arm strength issues. I love Chad and still think that he can start and win in this league but he just doesn't have the value to garner such a swap. The highest we could get for him would probably be a 3rd rounder at best.

Wouldn't his yearly number for the Dolphins decrease if we trade him since we would still be the ones paying his signing bonus? I thought signing bonuses are the responsibility of the teams which the player was originally signed to? If they're paying a little less in the monetary department than it would be slightly more affordable to bring in outside talent. Plus, some of their big contract defensive players have to be retiring this season. I doubt everyone from that defense is still going to be there next year. Age and wear and tear have to be going to force someone out this year.

I agree 100%. Chad, absolutely can be extremely formidable with another team. Our plate would be too full to correct the Jets weaknesses enough for Chad to excell in NY in one more draft. Given Chad's age and history, it makes sense for us to go in another direction.

He is clearly a much better fit for some of the other team's in the NFL than he is for the Jets.

I think the best fit of all is him going to the Ravens.
I think Chad would be hurt in KC.
Minnesota is a strong possiblity, too.

Exactly. I see the 2 top spots in the NFL where Penny would do very well as being Minnesota and Baltimore.

That is why I think there will be a lot of interest in Pennington.

KC would be a major mistake for Pennington. I am sure we would benefit, but Pennington would be the loser in this scenario.

True, but I do not think it is happening this weekend. I just think the Titans have something to play for and Clarke has zero chance of containing Haynesworth.

Clarke may very well be responsible for another QB injury after this weekend.

If Chad does not get injured, we do have a shot against KC. KC is suffering from injuries at the running back position amongst others.

Personally, I don't really see the point to trading up to #1. I don't think we should be going out of our way to try for McFadden and should just deal with what comes to us wherever we end up. No one else would be worth trading up for for us and honestly, I don't think McFadden's gonna be worth trading up that much for. I'd rather stick in the 4-7 range if we're there and draft Gholston if we can.
