Oh yeah, as for Tanny...I really don't think he's anything special...most of us think Mangini has most of the say over personnel decisions anyway...so we lose a cap guru, big deal, just hire a guy from H & R Block to fill his spot.
Lets see who he hires as GM and his HC before making statements like that. Miami has major problems, its going to take time for Parcells to fix the mess over there. He might get them back on track but probably wont stay long enough to finish the job..
We have major problems also, no proven QB to build around, no OL, week WR group, crap DL and a weak staff under a young promising HC along with Jay Cross as President and Woody Johnson as the owner. Give me Parcells Cleo Lemon and Brown plus the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft and I would take my chances that in two off seasons they are ahead of the Jets.
Miami doesn't even have their FO in place yet, they brought in the first part, the head man. Parcells track record for hiring HCs is pretty limited, with his only HC hire being unsuccessful. I think we need to wait and see what their FO and HC and staff look like before going into panic mode. We dont even know what our staff is going to look like in a few weeks. We certainly have issues of our own but at this point the talent of the Jets is better than the talent of the Phins.
Bingo. Every JET fans is wetting their pants this AM, but we all know his usual routine. And he'll do it again. He'll get them really good in 3 years and then leave after season 4. He'll leave to go to NFL Network or FOX or whoever else wants to give him an extra special tongue swirl. The ego on this guy is ridiculous.
Completely off-topic: JetsLookingforDWare, I love your avatar. Damn! Who is that? I now look for your posts
While Parcells is a good NFL H C he's not so hot in keeping his word.Arthur Blank(Falcons owner) had a verbal commitment and Bill reneged and went running to Huizenga. While I appreciated what he did for us oh so briefly for 3 years he's no better than a snake the way he left the Jets hanging. He will make Miami better until he becomes bored or gets a better offer.
Not even Parcells knows what Parcells is doing Falcons latest team 'left at the altar', maybe Dolphins will be next The late George Young, who in 1982 hired a little-known assistant named Bill Parcells to coach the New York Giants, said it best: “Bill knows what defense he’ll call during the second series three games from now. He doesn’t know what he’s doing in his own life three days from now.” So, it comes as no surprise that Parcells agreed on Tuesday to become Atlanta’s director of football operations, then decided on Wednesday he might be better off with a similar job in Miami. We think. If that doesn’t work out, he can always wait until next season, then play the “I will, I won’t” game with some losing team looking desperately for a savior. This is at least the fifth time in two decades that something like this week’s events have happened: twice with the Falcons, twice with the Buccaneers and once during a wacky week in New Orleans in January 1997. Then, the Tuna was preparing the New England Patriots for a Super Bowl while at the same time negotiating with the Jets to become their coach. Now it’s Arthur Blank “jilted at the altar” by Parcells, who has decided his future may be in Miami. Given his history, let’s not get carried away just yet by that Dolphins marriage. Maybe Parcells’ future is back in Bristol, Conn., with ESPN, and in Saratoga during the late summer, to race his horses. Until next season, that is, when some floundering team calls and offers to give him the sun. Naturally, Parcells will ask that they throw in the moon. Then he’ll move on to the next offer.
Teams that Parcells has been involved with have always improved by at least 3 games in his first season on the job, with the exception of the Giants he took over in his first job. The difference factor here is that Parcells has always been coach before.
Welll that is a huge difference, if he was hired as the HC then ok. His track record running the football operations is not the same as his track record as a HC. With that said I think it was a great hire for the Phins but they have a long way to go to even get to the Jets level let alone a level that competes for a playoff spot.
I believe that of the Jets and Fins offensive and defensive units the only one that is remotely functional is the Fins defense. I really think that if Parcells can make their offense remotely functional that the Fins will be instantly competitive at a .500 level. The Jets have a much harder rebuild at this point in terms of 2008. Looking further down the road I think the teams are much closer to parity because the Fins D will need a major rebuild after next season or 2009 at the latest. That would put them where the Jets are now.
Well have to disagree the Fins D is way way way older/shittier then ours. It is horrible if you ask me. Their D breaks down as the game moves along and they have hardly any young players that you can look to the future and say man he is going to be good. I n fact they may only have 1 good young players on the D at all. (Channing Crowder) I think the area where Parcells will put them ahead is on the O-Line. He has shown he can get lines built in a hurry. If the Fins get a competent O-line and Ronnie Brown comes back to a level remotely close to what he was, their team is ahead of our in this area by default. It is all conjecture at this point. I think the jury is going to be out on Parcells as some of his drafts have been abject disasters. However, he has a keen eye for FA's and that is where the Jets FO is currently lacking.
 what's so aggrevating is how much better the defense looks after the bye week for two years in a row than before-why? they had the entire summer to get the defense ready!
Amazing that I’m seeing so many “so whats” and “he sucks” and “this wont hurt us” around here on this. I think somehow some of you have forgotten that the Jets were bigger jokes than the Phins when the tuna came to town and he righted that ship pretty quick. We're in for a long couple of years considering the magnitude of incompetence in our current regeim, the fact that I don’t see much changing with the cheatriots anytime soon, the Bills already swept us and now this… I swear to god – I’m approaching this god damn offseason like Brett Favre does every year now; I’m going to take some time off to evaluate things and do some soul searching, discuss it with my family and then I’m going to seriously consider retiring as a sports fan. I can’t take this shit much more.
